Id put 10 stars if I Could! Delicious! REAL INDIAN FOOD! I have been craving good Indian food for sooo long and have been looking everywhere. This place is awesome! Excellent price! Very friendly customer service! Good sitting area! You can even sit outside if you want! Very clean!! Their masala was on point! They also have indian (desi) soda like limca. Their achar is so delicious!!! Its like homemade indian achar. May I say that im in love with this place and will be going there alot!

So basically when I cannot decide what to eat in my area my go to spot is Indian food. Generally I forget about Indian food until it's the last resort. Which ironically is one of my favorite foods to eat. Weird right? I cannot give a 5 star review because their customer service isn't all that great. The girl was on her cell phone while taking my order , although it seemed like a family member on the other side. I really would like just to get my food and be on my merry way. The quality in the food stays consistently delicious, and I've never had anything bad here. Today I got the tandoori chicken which was moist and not to salty. Chicken tikka masala had huge chucks of breast meat in the creamy sauce it comes in. Their naan is freshly made, and always hot minutes after you sit down. Need I say this made one of the top 100 spots to try in San Diego this year? (I forgot the source).

$5.99 for a two-item plate with naan and salad all day, every day?! Seriously, how can you NOT go here for your weekly cheat lunch/meal? No joke, I think about going here every week, and always fight the urge not to by telling myself "nope, can't move my car because parking is tight at my work facility." Okay, we're not here to talk shop, my bad... Tried and true, I always order the same thing even though I like getting free samples of the other good stuff! I usually order: - Chicken tikka masala: very tender chunks of chicken soaked in that creamy and flavorful masala sauce. I'm salivating think about it! Perfectly spiced and great for dipping naan bread! - Tandoori chicken - the magenta coloring reminds me of Chinese BBQ pork (char siu). Flavor is similar as well, except it's on the chicken thigh! Very moist and if you're lucky, they'll give you a generous piece too! - Biryani rice: you'll never go back to the basmati rice after having this. Seriously, my taste buds will not settle for any other east asian fried rice, as they're all far inferior to biryani rice. Delhi's version is a bit spicy, which is awesome - Salad: some shredded lettuce, but is great when topped with the green chutney sauce If you're with a group, definitely order the garlic naan if you're carb-loading. It's sooooo good and worth the price. I should really try their mango lassi next time! Service is quick and everything else is self-serve. Yep, Indian fast food at its finest. Best believe I welcome the food coma that hits me 30 minutes after. 60% of the time, it happens every time.

Came here just about when the buffet was ending. Small place in a busy shopping center. They have a buffet that cost 7.99 which ends at 3pm I believe. It was decent, nothing to brag about an nothing to really complain about either. Food was alright, it tasted a bit bland for me. I was expecting a very tasty meal considering it was Indian Food. Usually Indian food are very flavorful with some spice. I felt they could have added more. The service was ok, they didn't really speak much. Overall, it was ok.

Huge fan of this mom and pop Panda Express like restaurant located in the Trader Joe's plaza in Carmel Mountain! Delhi Kitchen has hot food available in a buffet style where you can mix and match your entree OR they have a separate menu where they will cook up something fresh for you on the spot (love their Biryani...think Indian fried rice). I typically like Indian restaurants with buffet style offerings so I can pick and choose what I want depending on the day. Their entrees are fresh during the lunch and dinner hours. But I would avoid the sitting buffet items for a late dinner and just order something fresh off the menu. Ambience - There is none. Very few tables in the store. Only 2 tables that will accommodate 4 people and about 3 tables for a party of 2. It can get stuffy in there; however, there is also an outside seating area that is shared amongst the restaurants in the plaza. That is your best bet. Service - I've had both sides of the spectrum where service is very warm and genuine or a bit distracted. I have come to expect this at most ethnic restaurants who are run by 1st generation immigrants and am not offended when the server is not warm or distracted by a side conversation with a family member who is cooking in the back. Lunch/Dinner Special - Delhi Kitchen offers combos from their buffet spread. 3 items for meat/veggie items are $6.99 or $6.50 (veggies only). It comes with fresh naan and rice! On Saturdays and Sundays they also have all you can eat buffet from 11am-3pm for $7.99. It includes rice, naan, and samosas!!! Come with your sweatpants! Food - Caveat: I am no means a Indian cuisine expert. But this is one of my favorite places in San Diego! Just gonna list a couple of my favorites. **Also of note, they do not serve the same items in their buffet area everyday, so call ahead if you are looking to grab it with one of their lunch specials** Saag Panner 5/5 - Creamy spicy spinach with cheese shaped like tofu mixed in Aloo Gobi 5/5 - Potatoes and cauliflower mixed in a yellow spice. Mild in heat. Chicken Tikka Masala 5/5 - Creamy sauce mixed with tandoori chicken. No spice. Vegetable Korma 4/5 - Milky sauce mixed with canned carrots, green beans, and peas. Good option if you don't like spice. Biryani 4/5 - So spicy! But so flavorful! Spices and your choice of meat mixed into rice. Docking off a star because they said it's not spicy...but it was! Samosa 2/5 - fried pastry with potatoes and meat and veggies mixed in. mine was not fresh. it was not my favorite I really love that Delhi Kitchen has been around for years. I've frequented this plaza for years and only in the last 5 years have discovered my love for Indian food. It's been weird to see their kids (who used to run around the plaza) grow up and help at the register, which firmly cements that this little restaurant is indeed family owned. Parking can be difficult during the lunch hours and the weekends. But this place is worth it. Check it out!

I miss this place a lot because I moved. If you live in San Diego, you should take advantage of the chance to eat this scrumptious food!

My Indian coworkers showed me this place telling me the San Diego favorite Punjabi Tandoor is for beginners. I didn't expect much...until I got here. Order the chili chicken! it's not on the menu but it's so flavorful. It's juicy chicken with a spicy kick! I can also say their garlic naan is a lot better than PT's. Ample parking space! Clean restaurant! Overall, I'd come back here again if I'm near the area!

AMBIENCE: A small little place in a busy plaza where Trader Joe's is located. There is limited indoor and outdoor seating. SERVICE: This place is a little family owned joint. The whole family is very nice. Great service. Warning: no restrooms. FOOD: First off, great prices for the amount of food you get. The samosa's here are spicier than other places, and its delicious, love that extra kick! I would love it even more if they had the chole samosa's like the surati mart. My favorites are pretty much just all the vegetarian dishes, better than the meat ones, not saying the chicken tikka masala or something isn't good, I just wouldn't prefer it. So I personally solely come here for their vegetarian curries. And did I mention, they give very generous portions. Everything is good. I typically get the pick any 2 veggie combo for $5.50 and am totally stuffed when i'm done. They also offer pick any 2 meats and/or veggie for $5.99, pick 3 veggies for $6.50 and pick any 3 meat and/or veggie. And if you just want to try everything, they also do a buffet on the weekends, 11pm to 3pm for only $7.99. But, I thought the buffet food wasn't as good as getting the regular combo meals.

I've eaten here before and it was like the Panda Express equivalent for Indian Food, but family owned. There is a limited hot bar near the door that serves your basic chicken masala, vegetarian mush, and a few other options.. and they have a bigger menu above. Recently visited for a quick stop to satisfy an Indian food craving.. it was about 7pm and the hot bar was poorly stocked. Dishes (especially the chicken masala) had a film of "i've been sitting here too long". Although not new to Indian food, I was taking a bit of time to find an option that wasn't the "non-Indian" palate catering dishes. The guy behind the counter was in an apparent rush to have me order (while there was no one else in the restaurant) and kept pushing the chicken masala. Just because I'm not Indian doesn't mean I want the Amercanized fare. I opted for some indistinguishable vegetable mash and of course the chicken masala which was soupy, chicken was rubbery and just meh overall. The naan was okay.. and the green mint sauce on the side was a very strange colored green... Overall, the last visit really turned me away from the establishment. The service dulled any desire to enjoy the food. It's palatable.. cheap.. but definitely on par with grabbing frozen indian food from the near by trader joes. I probably would have enjoyed the trader's version than my most recent experience. 2.5 stars. Probably won't return. There is better in the area (check out yelp!).

Horrible Food. Why did you people add vinegar in Raita and curry? I never ever recommend to any of my friends here. You people are amazing, How could you run business with these food??? ** NEVER TRY THIS PLACE ** This is not Indian taste guys..

Nothing fancy here. Small family place with the basics of good food. I got the 3 special and a samosa for around $8.50. I don't think I got the yogurt or the salad that's supposed to come with the special? The food was boxed and I picked it up when I got back from Trader Joe's. Chicken Tandoori - Good flavors, tad dry. Chicken Tikka Masala - Yummy creaminess, very tender chicken that just falls apart, which some people might not enjoy and would prefer a bite to their chicken. I'll come back for this, and hopefully when it is fresh so that it hasn't broken down from heat so much. Veggie Korma - Meh Samosa - Got a fresh one. I enjoyed the spice, the nice crunch, and the starchy interior. Definitely try one out. I'll come back for more. The portions were about right for the price, though I would have liked to have more than 3 cubes of chicken in my tikka masala.

Just finished having lunch here and it was just....meh. I ordered the lunch special with two meats. I asked for chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo. After asking for both meats, the guy behind the counter pretty much just scoffed and said that's not how it works here. Already annoyed from my experience at the Sprint store, I told him to just put whatever. So he goes and just scoops the food from the buffet! Umm...if I wanted the buffet food I would have ordered the buffet. I ended up with some chicken tikka masala that was way more pink than its normal red, and some ground beef potato slop that had a good amount put on the tray rather than the plate. Both were relatively bland, but as a positive, at least I know there's a place not to dine at anymore!

  • Ellre V.

My absolute favorite place for Indian food! I always go for the vegetarian combo for $6.99 which includes rice, naan, and a salad (or yogurt). Portion sizes are so generous that a combo plate can easily be shared between two people. Sometimes I don't share though, because the KORMA IS AMAZING. I either double up on the vegetable korma or choose another side like the aloo gobi (cauliflower and potato cooked with tomato spices) or channa masala (garbanzo beans in tomato, onion, and garlic curry sauce). Really, you can't go wrong with any of the aforementioned dishes. I've frequented this kitchen numerous times with my family and the food is always consistently delicious. Even though it's located in a giant shopping center, parking is sometimes difficult due to all the Trader Joe's traffic. Seating can be a challenge as well. The restaurant is clean, but small even with the additional outdoor seats. Because of this I usually order to-go, but the weekend buffet* is definitely worth the squeeze (seating-wise and pant-wise!). Delhi Kitchen is the place to go for delicious, authentic, and cheap Indian food. So glad that this family-run restaurant is still around! *A $7.99 all you can eat buffet on the weekends? YES PLEASE.

Nice place, little hole in the wall you might never see. Allison told me about this place so Patty and I went to try it out. The lady behind the counter was very nice and sweet. She offered us taste of the food before we ordered. We got the Tikka chicken and the garlic naan. The chicken was very good. I'm more of a Thai & sushi eater, but for a quick meal at very reasonable priced it was good.

What the heck happened? Omg! No way am I coming back. This place was awesome when they first opened years back. I used to come here once a month when the kids where growing up. I moved away to Carlsbad about 5 years ago. I'd always recommend it but after today, no way. I'm so sad. Furthermore, please clean up the c place like the old window decals falling off and are bleached from the sun, goodness. Have pride.

There are no signs of soap or paper towels in the restroom. The same restroom the employees use. That's all I'm saying. Oh, wait... this is also the cheapest-quality Indian food I've ever had, and am shocked that this place has 4 stars with 200+ reviews. I've tried Indian places all over Southern California... trust me folks, there is much better out there! Alright, now THAT'S all I'm saying.

Great quality fast food indian at a cheap price! Place has limited seating but compensates with outdoor dining. Chicken tikka masala and veggie korma is delicious. They give salad and fresh naan with your plate. Yogurt is kind of strange so I always pick salad. Try their chai tea... Great topper to end your meal.

Having previously worked in the area, I had the chance to try their multi-item lunch special combo before...which had a good amount of food (don't remember what I got exactly though). Fast forward a few years later, my bf and I decided to try out their weekend Saturday and Sunday buffet. I gotta say, it was a great idea! -$7.99 per person -11am-3pm on Saturday and Sundays -All you can eat -Some menu items included are: veggie samosas, chicken tikki masala (my fave!), veggie curries/korma, basmati rice, naan, chicken, Aloo Jeera Masala (curried potatoes). I also tried their mango lassi (a sweet yogurt drink), which was really yummy and refreshing on a hot day! The food was delicious and the buffet price was an awesome deal. Will be back again!

Don't forget your coupon! Go to their website and print out a buy 3 get 1 free coupon if you are going with a group! My family of 4 feasted for $22. We all got the combo meal with 1 meat and 2 veggie dishes + rice, "salad" and naan. I taste everyone's food aways so I tasted about everything they had. Everything was good, but I wouldn't say exceptional. For the value though? Awesome! The best part of the meal is the naan, it is fresh and reeeeally good in my opinion. If you've only had the stuff that comes of the bag from the grocery store you are missing out. This place is not good for groups and parking can be harder for North County and all but it's totally worth going to. I think this will be my goto place for Indian for now!

I used to live close by and used to eat at Delhi kitchen 4-5 times a month. The place might be small but the food is closest in taste to authentic north Indian food. It is easily the best Indian restaurant in north county San Diego. Highly recommended!

I used to work in the Carmel Mtn area a few years ago and I would eat at Delhi kitchen several times a week. Their chicken tikka masala is awesome! The naan is always fresh and made right in front of you. After changing jobs and moving out of the area, I was in Carmel mountain visiting family again so I stopped by. It had been a few years since I had been back so I was curious how this place had fared. I'm happy to say that the food was as good as I remembered if not better! With most small business cutting corners with their recipes over time, this place has stayed true to their cooking.

  • Jeremy D.

This place has been here fora long time and it's for a good reason. The food is awesome and it's authentic as you can get. The family that runs it is always there as well. You can grab some food that is already prepared for a quick lunch or dinner, but their full menu is amazing.

  • Amanda D.

How can this place get good reviews? The aloo gobi is too salty and the vegetable korma is too runny. I asked for more salad (when I didn't have rice or bread) and I got an annoyed look. It's not that "affordable" as they claimed to be. The only perk perhaps is that I can sit outside under the sun while the inside is considered to be pretty cramped (definitely don't attempt to take a date here!)

If you're craving for good Indian food. It's delicious and satisfying. My kids love the Tandoori Chicken & naan bread. Great neighborhood joint. I've been going her for over 15 years. I usually order to go or sit outside. If you're nearby, swing by...you will agree!!

Best Indianan food ever! The dishes are so flavorful, the portions are huge and the price is right! I go here at least once a week for a delicious giant plate of food. $5.50 for two vegetarian dishes, rice, two pieces of homemade naan, and yogurt sauce or salad. They put different dishes up every day and are all so good. On the weekends they do an all you can eat deal, yum yum!

Love this place and the very nice family who own and run it. If your a newbie I would say go Saturday or Sunday before 3 when they offer a buffet style lunch. There Chicken Masala is really good and the smell of Naan cooking fills the air. It is a tight seating area inside but they also have tables outside and we live in Cali so suck it up.

I have lost the count how many times I have eaten here!!! Damn tasty food, garlic naan uuuuu!!! you gotta try Samosa here the best samosas you can have in SD. I literally drive there almost 2-3 times a week from my office for a lunch. My friend is a vegetarian and according to him they have best Chana Masala in SD. It is small restaurant and it can get really crowded sometimes. However if you wanna have good Indian food this is the place. I don't prefer other chicken dishes like Tikka masala and all, it is too sweet. 5 stars for : Chicken Curry, Garlic Naan, Samosas, Chana Masala, Alloo(potato) Paratha Well, writing this review I am craving for it so gotta go " one Chicken Curry combo please :P"

We did a take-out meal for the family and the food was amazing but the gentleman who helped my wife forgot to put any rice in the bag. It's a good thing we had Jasmine rice at home but the whole family had to wait until the rice was ready. Summary: Great food but check your bag if it's a take-out meal. Enjoy!

  • Jenny A.

Okay, I give 4.5 stars, but I rounded up because their food is just so freaking good. AMBIANCE: This is a hole-in-the-wall family owned Indian restaurant. There's enough seating for maybe... 15 people inside, and another 10 people outside. Beware the lunch rush in this particular strip mall--it can take up to 10 minutes to find a far-away parking spot. Out of the times I've been here, I've seen kids come in and beeline for the back, and then have the same kid take my payment for my takeout. I say takeout, because I usually get my food to-go since seating is pretty tight. FOOD: Two words: Naan Oven. They have a legit one, and it sure does make a difference! It's always the same people working, and their food is consistent. And DELICIOUS. I love their chicken tikka marsala, their samosas, their spinach paneer, their tandoori chicken... pretty much everything. I think I've had it all, and I've never been disappointed. I always get their mango lassi, and boy it's always nicely chilled and super mango-y. PRICE: The best part is that it's cheap! Lunch specials are under $10. Regular prices aren't much more. This is my go-to Indian shop in San Diego, hands down. Beats all those places off Miramar Road!

The chicken tikka masala and vegetable korma were both tasteless. Decent amount of (bland) chicken in the tikka masala, but the vegetable korma was especially disappointing. It looked and tasted like canned vegetables swimming in cream of chicken soup. The only thing that was good about this meal was the naan.

One of my friends recommended this place. This place is again a family owned business. I have noticed that North Indian food prepared by owners from North India will always be best. As soon I entered the place, it smelled good. I knew from that moment that the food would be great. Sometimes you can figure out the quality of the food by aroma of spices. I heard the owners communicating in punjabi( common language in north India) which also indicated that the both would be great ( seeing my past experience). They have dinner buffet which I found is pretty common in La Jolla area. There are different combinations from which you can choose. But I wanted to have something from the main menu. I ordered the Chilly Paneer with gravy and garlic naan. The dish was medium spicy and the gravy had right amount of ingredients. The garlic naan was perfect as well. The place was pretty busy. They were receiving orders on phone and delivering food in the restaurant as well. There was some delay but I think it is okay. You can wait a little more to get quality food. The place has indoor and outdoor seating as well. I would definitely try to this place again and would recommend to others. Thanks for the good food.

I absolutely LOVE Delhi Kitchen! I've been going here for years, and the I have never been disappointed. Seriously the best Indian food I've ever had. I look forward to going here every time I'm in town. My favorite dish there is the chicken tikka masala. Sometime's I'll get the 3 entree plate with just that. The sauce is so delicious and flavorful without being too salty or overpowering. It's also great for pouring over rice and as a dipping sauce for naan. I pretty much can't eat chicken tikka masala from anywhere else because nothing comes close to as good as theirs! I've tried every dish that they have have ready made, and everything is delicious. Sometimes they also have lamb keema available and it's super tasty. I've only seen it a few times, but I always look for it when I go there. Another dish I would recommend is the vege korma. The assortment of vegetables changes from time to time, so on some days it's better than on others depending on what veggies you like The only downside to Delhi Kitchen is that it is in a very crowded area and the restaurant is pretty small. I would not recommend coming with large groups, especially during the weekend lunch buffet. I definitely do recommend the lunch buffet though. At $7.99 it's a steal!

I have been here maybe 10 times over the last 4 years . I love the Chicken Masala and Veggie Korma and the garlic bread I feel bad but unfortunately, the cleanliness of the place has made me to stop going. The place needs a scrubbing, fresh coat of paint and decluttering. Even the way they put the food on the plate shows the lack of care. It is dripping all over the side as they missed the plate a little. Food: A Friendliness : A Price : A Cleanliness: D Hope that the owners read this and clean up the place. If they do, I'll be back.

Great value for lunch! I've been to Delhi Kitchen numerous times for lunch and the food is always been decent. The variety is not that great, the choices are pretty much the same every time I've been there. For $5.99 you get rice, naan bread, side salad or yogurt and 2 choices of meat/veggies. The place is tiny, i prefer just to take my food to go.

Been coming to this place for years. Family owned and operated place with consistently tasty and inexpensive Indian food. Very authentic and has a great vibe. The family members are very nice and obviously take pride in their jobs.

13.00 for 2 meat items and 1 vegetable only to be given small portions :( I'm sad for I had my hopes up. The food was below good it was ok. Only Good thing was the nan. Disappointment.

This is not Indian food. No where in India specially in New Delhi I have ever had food so bad. Just because it is hot and spicy does not qualify it to be an Indian restaurant. 2 stars just because they cook good Naan.

This is one of my favorite spots! You can't beat it! It's extremely reasonably priced and the food is great! Plus on the weekends they have a $7.99 all you can eat lunch buffet from 11am-3pm! It's the best deal in town! The service is fast and the food is fresh. Every time I go they are filling the troughs back up! The service isn't necessarily with a smile, but it's friendly enough. Daal and Tikka Masala are my favs!

The suburbs are not exactly known for quality ethic food, but Delhi Kitchen in Rancho Bernardo is the shining exception. It is family run and the food tastes like it, everything I've had is absolutely delicious! The tikka masala is sweeter than I've had at other places, and they are great about spicing the food to the level that you want. Plus, the prices are fantastic. This is definitely my favorite place to go when visiting my mom in the 'burbs!

Pretty good! Great prices! Service is a bit lacking. the naan was really good!! They forgot my salad on my 3 items combo but everything else was pretty good. Think of this as panda express of Indian food. A good place to get your fix for Indian food without breaking the bank. I will be back.

  • Avi D.

ok. The thing with these guys buffet is they start running out of buffet items like desserts an hour before their buffet time is over. They purposefully delay the naans. I had to tell 3 times to finally get someone to prepare them for me. Then there is this kid at the counter with a turban who will start telling to have only 1 naan if you are asking for 2 saying they are big etc. When I requested for dessert which had ran out they first said yes it is coming and then no more we cannot prepare. When asked for naan they say we are preparing when actually they want your food to get cold and you have no appetite for it or give up on it. So if you come here for buffet get all items at once otherwise they will run out off items by the time you need one and then they don't care to prepare them. Customer service is last priority they think they are doing favor. They seem to think their price is cheap and are trying to control quantity of items people eat. Then stop the buffet and do combo only.

Chicken Tikka Masala, Veggie Korma, and Samosas are the best I have tried. Everything I've ever had here is amazing. The portions are huge and it's under $8 for two entrees, rice, salad, and naan. Weekend buffet is also amazing if you want to try everything. The employees are really nice and make your naan fresh when you order it as well as re-fry (I think?) your samosas. Amazing hidden gem in Carmel Mountain !

Delhi Kitchen has great Indian food, in a good sized portion, for about the same price as a footlong. This isn't really a sit down type of restaurant. It's more like a taco stand for Indian food. It's a plastic fork and wood veneer table type of place. But that's not a bad thing really. Considering the value, the food is top notch. They really get the spices right, and the naan is hot when they hand it to you. I make it a point to pick something up whenever I'm passing through the area. If management is reading... there's not a single Indian place anywhere near Normal Heights. You could count on my business regularly.

Worst restaurant experience ever, 1 star is way too much for them. The chicken tandoori was cold and tasteless, the lady at the cashier needs to learn some customer care skills (wouldn't greet or even say thank you). I even asked two times to get a receipt for my credit card payment and they totally ignored me. Don't waste your money and time at this cheap junk place, there are lots of other good Indian Restaurants if you like Indian food.

Not bad. I was supposed to go to Indian with some gal pals today but it didn't work out, so this was good. It's a quaint place with Bollywood music videos playing! Can't beat the price and it was a nice bonding time with my mom and I because we like watching Bollywood movies together :) I wish we had the seating where we could both watch :) I finally tried Gobi Parathas made known to me from the film "Mujhse Dosti Karoge!" Delicious! Hrithik Roshan had me sold on them the moment I saw the movie! They had a nice selection of a variety of juices like Lychee, Coconut, Guava and mango too. $5.99 for a healthy and very filling dinner is awesome to me. I'm sure I'll be back. I loved watching their nan bread get freshly baked and I loved eating it fresh even more! Also the cashier was very patient with us when we were a bit shy about how much spice was on our food, so she was really helpful.

Not anywhere near as good as Punjabi tandor. I think the price is a big draw for this place. A dinner combo with vegetarian dishes is only $5 or $6. But the taste isn't there at all. Not a lot of depth of flavor.

First time trying Indian food and I could not stop thinking about it for days afterwards! I have always been afraid of the aromas and the different spices Indian food has but the cashier was nice and gave me a detailed description of everything on the cafeteria table! I got the chicken tikki masala and some other okra type dish combo. It comes with salad, rice, and naan! For a little under $7, I surely got my moneys worth with tons of leftovers for my next meal

Saw yelp review and thought we should check out since we live nearby. Had chicken tikka masala and naan bread and food was just average. I'm a fan of punjabi tandoor on activity rd and Sher punjabi in sorrento valley for chicken tikka masala but live in north county so disappointed that I haven't found a great Indian spot. Oh wells guess I'll keep looking.

Yum! We go here for take out regularly. They have a selection of dishes ready to go for super cheap (under $6 for 2 items, plus salad, rice and naan that is excellent!). Or you can order single items made fresh to order for a bit more. I've never done the buffet on Sat and Sun for lunch, but it seems like a great deal. Love the chicken Tikka Marsala. The place is definitely a whole in the wall and depending on who puts together your plate, you get different portion sizes.

I always get the Vege Korma here. It's a must-try and a must-have. I could live on the Vege Korma here for lunch every day if need be. That's how good it is with the naan that is freshly baked. They do have a good rotation of other dishes in the buffet during the week. My other recommendations are the saag paneer and the chicken karahi. Price is very inexpensive if you get the buffet. The lunch queue reminds me of Seinfield's "soup nazi" episode. Basically, you line up, tell the server the combo you want, and you walk up to the cashier and pay before you get your tray of food. There isn't a lot of seating inside the restaurant. If you are lucky during lunchtime, you might get a table outside. Like others have said, this is a simple Indian express takeout place for a quick meal. If you eat-in, you bus your own table before you leave.

Amazing flavors coming out of this place! My new favorite lunch place at work. Priced right and healthy. The Chicken Tikka Masala is probably the best I've ever tasted. Pita bread is warm and fresh. The Aloo Gobi is excellent. Salad with yogurt dressing is very good as well. Big plus for having a good beer selection.

Best Naan I have ever eaten in the whole of United States. This is my go to place as I used to live a block away from it. I would say this place has the best North Indian food in San Diego out of all the Indian places I've tried.

I walk by this little place a lot and it seems to be busy most of the time esp. during lunch hours on weekdays. The food is okay, not bad for the price you pay for the combo deals (they have couple of them). It's a bit too cramped to sit inside and eat esp when they have a long line, they have some seating outside as well, you do get the fresh air and a view of the parking lot. The naan is good as well as the veggie samosa's and pakora's. The different veggie dishes are a hit or a miss.

  • Dee V.

It is a typical hole in the wall run by a punjabi family. For about $7 you can get 3 sides with rice, naan, salad and yogurt. Thats their costliest combo! We got two of the 2 side combo. We got all of the veggie options as the meat was NOT HALAL. The first combo had the saag paneer and the aloo gobhi. The second combo with dal makhani and veg korma. The saag panner and dal makhani was typical punjabi style and I loved it. The spicy was of the regular indian standard and not toned down. The aloo gobhi was decent. Did not like the korma.

Good food! I love that lamb curry dish and fresh naan. I was surprised to find lots of lamb pieces. I love a good lamb dish. Next time I will go for a goat dish. I finished off with some kheer. Not sure what's in there besides rice, but I loved it. I'm so relieved to find a cheap good Indian restaurant. I think I will come here again to enjoy more of their menu

Very good price but less variety. Only 6-8 choices. Weekend buffet is cheap, 7.99 Sat and Sunday 11-3. Next time will order two items. Come with naan, rice and salad or yugurt. Yugurt is disappointing. If u want a fast food but sick of burger or taco, this is a good choice.

Surprisingly good food, both for a buffet (cheap or not) and for a shabby looking hole-in-the-wall. All the fancier Indian places I've been to haven't had as tasty buffet lunches, even if they looked better. Delhi Kitchen actually has some spiciness in the dishes (mild = mildly spicy, instead of completely lacking in spiciness). Unlike typical buffets, the food was not bland, lukewarm, with super dry meat, etc. I particularly liked the chicken tikka masala, which was flavorful and had the most moist [say that 10x fast] chicken of the other dishes. The samosas were also a pleasant surprise, as the skins were relatively thin and crisp without being greasy, and the innards had nice texture and flavor (versus some of the bland, mushy blobs I've been subjected to). They also were quite edible given that they'd been sitting out for a while; I unfortunately got mine right before they put out a fresh batch, and was way too full to get more. My only minor complaints would be the unseasoned, dryish rice and rather flavorless naan (though nicely crisp). However, for $7.99 ayce it's a great value and taste overall.

I think this little eatery is amazing. Unfortunately, my kids are more into the Americanized version of Indian food a.k.a. Kasi. They did, however, say that the mango lassi is way better here. The naan is so good! I hope to try the all you can eat weekend buffet soon.

5 stars all the way. A hole in a wall indian family owned restaurant. The combo plate for $6.99 is a bargain and all the dishes tasted very good. The tiki masala sauce was not watery and the nan bread was delicious. Quality food that is Ez on the wallet. Spasiba!

Experienced this place for the first time. I wasn't sure what to order because I'm not too familiar with Indian food so I called to ask a few questions. The gentleman I spoke with was very helpful and gave me some suggestions. Told him I had to call back because I wanted to speak with my husband first about what he wanted. Called back, got someone else who was equally as helpful. We ordered the chicken tikka masala combo. Great suggestion, however, my son and I thought the chicken was a little dry. Other than that, the food was fantastic! My teenager asked what we were having for dinner and when I told him, he was not, the least bit excited. When the meal arrived, you could tell he wanted something else. After tasting the food, he actually enjoyed it, besides the comment about the chicken being dry. I couldn't finish my plate so he eagerly took the rest from me. We will be dining here again; love how close it is to our home.

This place is so good and relatively cheap! I came here on a Friday night with my boyfriend after hearing great things from some friends. The staff was friendly and the food was DELICIOUS! I ordered the veggie combo with channa masala and it was amazing!! Their naan is made right on the spot and tastes incredible. I will definitely come here again.

Been coming here for years now and I have to say this is some of the best Indian food around. You could easily walk by this non-descript place and assume that you didn't miss anything but you would be wrong because inside this little hole in the wall is some of the best Indian food you will experience in San Diego. First impression is that this little hole in the wall can't be good, but it is be good. Apart from the food taste and quality you will note that this place is actually quite inexpensive to dine in which will keep you coming back again and again.

Great deal... $7.99 for a lunch buffet that comes with really delicious, generous naan (it was hard to stop eating it!), freshly-cooked basmati rice, and dessert! The food here is actually pretty spicy, in a good way. My nose was running the whole time I was eating my lentils and chana masala. I've had better samosas, but I do credit it for containing a lot of intact caraway and fennel seeds... very authentic flavor and not too greasy. I would have liked more buffet options, particularly for dessert... maybe some fruit or something? But otherwise, great find!

Everything is pre-made which makes it a quick in and out process. MY favorite Indian dish is the Saag Paneer and I get it at every indian restaurant so I have a basic criteria to judge them on. At Delhi Kitchen when she dipped the serving spoon into the pre-made Saag Paneer there was a think skin on the top from sitting under to heating lap for such a long time. The flavor was good and the price was fair for the portion I received hence the 3 star rating. It was OK.

I wasn't too impressed with this place despite the good reviews. The chicken tika masala was a bit bland. For a few dollars more I'd rather just go to an Indian lunch buffet where I can get a little bit of everything.

very nice and simple place to eat. I don't like most of the indian restaurants food as i know the real taste of indian food. This is one of my fav as the food is not too heavy to digest and you can easily eat it on daily basis. I used to go 2 times a week before moving out from san diego. Pros: Good Indian food combos. Very simple, easy to digest. Less calories. Not costly. Cons: Very small shop. Needs to change their combo everyday.

My first visit wasn't a very pleasant one (they were cleaning the restaurant with strong cleaner while we were eating there-- I almost threw up due to the fumes). However, I decided to give them another shot because I was craving some Chicken Tikka Masala. I ordered that and the Vege Korma and I realized I should have ordered more Vege Korma because it was AMAZING. For under $8, you get a lot of food. The portions are generous and the naan bread is huge. I usually never put tip in the tip jar but I felt so inclined to do so because the guy who put together my food was super nice so I tossed my change into the jar. ... would have been a 5 star review if my first visit was just as pleasant.

This review is for their lunch selection. During lunch, they have several options available sitting on a steam table which is nothing new. I opted for the 2 item combo that came with naan, rice, and salad (or yogurt) and it came out to $6.51. [one Star for being so very cheap] I had the chicken tikka masala and veggie korma, both were extremely bland. And since it was the lunch pot, the curries were not spicy at all (as expected, so I didn't mark them down for that). They are quite generous in their portions and the staff was friendly too [another Star]. Some other notes: - The parking lot gets really jammed during lunch hour - The restaurant is very tiny, so limited seating

Quickest Indian food this side of Bombay, or is it Mumbai now. The food is quite satisfying and you just can't beat the price of $6. The Tandoori chicken was dry just like Kim D reported, but the spooned entrees were a perfect complement to the two pieces of Naan bread that are included. They also have chutney if you look hard enough. - Parking in this mall is terrible for lunch. Get here early. - Kinda cramped inside - Choose the Yogurt over the salad..

This is my favorite place to go to for Indian food. The restaurant is small though, so don't go with a large group unless you're getting take out. They have a lunch buffet on weekends that I've only done once; which was a little awkward, because you have to ask them to dish up for you. The people who run it are very sweet and lend it a "mom & pop" quality that I like. The food is wonderful, and the prices are fantastic. The naan is popped into the traditional oven as soon as you place an order and by time you step to the register, it is plopped on your tray hot and fragrant. (Wish I could eat it, I'm sure it's lovely. But, alas, I'm allergic.) Wish I lived closer; I'd go every week! Parking is minimal, because it's small and there a LOT of great shops and popular restaurants in this mall.

  • Lee P.

Great, authentic Indian food. Small seating area and outside seating - focused on take out. It's like eating in someone's home (in a good way), intimate and friendly. The naan is made fresh to every order, we had to wait a minute for it. Chicken tikka masala and the paneer are both fantastic. Good value for money and a popular lunch destination. $5 gets a full complete meal. My coworkers eat there multiple time per week. I may join them! Delhi Kitchen is a fantastic place for Indian food! I have never been disappointed with anything I have ordered there & we have been going for years. I took my sister there yesterday because she has heard us talk about Delhi Kitchen for years but she's never tried Indian food. I let the woman behind the counter know that my sister had never tried Indian food & she asked her what my sister would like to sample and let her try a couple things. It really helped my sister make a choice in what she wanted to order. The Chicken Tikka Masala is delicious, as is the naan. We always have to order a couple orders of extra naan because we all eat so much of it. We had the Chicken Tikka Masala & the Veggie Korma. My sister loved both, as did the rest of the family. We also got samosas which are so yummy! For four 2-item meals, 2 orders of EXTRA naan & 4 samosas, everything came to $34! I think this is a terrific value & we were actually so full we didn't even eat dinner. I do agree with the other Yelpers that say the restaurant is really tiny. The place was packed yesterday when we went because of the lunch buffet but there were about 3-4 tables outside that were empty. We have always brought it home because of how small it is but don't let that stop you from enjoying the food!

Went to this place since we saw so many good reviews, but we were disappointed at the watery, sweet chicken tikki masala and bland rice and samosas. The prices are good but you get what you pay for, right? The people are very nice and you get plenty of food but not worth filling up your belly.

A great option for some home cooked food in a sea of chain restaurants which is the Carmel Mountain area. First and foremost; for those familiar with Punjabi Tandoor, no this place is not as good. However, Delhi Kitchen has one leg up on Punjabi which is the price. For about $6 you can get a satisfying meal of two veggies/meats served with rice and fresh naan. All things considered I would much rather pay for food here than at Chipotle. The other bonus for me is that I can get to this place during peak rush hour times. Not so for Punjabi Tandoor. The food was very solid. I thought their Tikka masala was good and their channa masala was no slouch either. The tandoori chicken was a little dry, but I'm willing to give it another shot. All things considered, for the price I have definitely had much worse. The people working behind the counter could have been friendlier, but that can be said of pretty much any Indian place. So long as you do your job I don't particularly care how friendly your are. With that being said the people here were quick and efficient. When in need of a quick, filling, cheap, and delicious meal you could do much worse than to dine here.

When I saw the outside of this restaurant I really was not sure. Of course looks can be deceiving. Inside was also not amazing. Having resided in the United Kingdom where there are at least three or four indian restaurants in each town I was not sure what to expect. We chose the meal of two entrees, rice and naan. All were excellent. The staff were friendly and there was a great atmosphere. The reason I didnt give a 5, I have had better indian food and the decor/look of the place could be improved. Would still go there for an informal meal or for a takeaway/takeout.

I went to Delhi Kitchen for the first time today. I thought maybe since I work nearby weekdays, I could add this to my list of lunch take-outs After my 5:30 pm visit, there is no way I would risk my lunch time for such poor service. I ordered the 3 vege dinner plate To-Go. I told her specifically that I do not want any dairy (no paneer, no raita, no ghee) , as I am vegan. So, she then asked me if I wanted yogurt. The server was good natured and helpful, and placed my selected items on a tray. She then rang up my order - $7.07. I paid with a $50 bill and 7 cents. She gave me my change and my tray and walked off. No receipt showing total food bill, what I paid and the change. Not take-out! As I walk with a cane, I put the change in my pocket, balanced the tray with one and walked with the help of my cane to an empty table. The naan was prepared fresh, but I didn't have to wait long. When the Naan came out, it was covered with butter. Unbelievable! When I got home, I found that the server gave me $22.00 ($20 bill and two $1 bills).. My math says %50.07 minus $7.07 should be $43.00. The place was very busy so, I'm not able to drive back and demand my change (if the server would even admit the mistake). I will call the management on Monday to complain about being so badly short-changed, and given buttered Naan when I said no paneer, no yogurt, no ghee. Food was ok - as is the case with most Indian food, it is cooked until limp and mushy (not crisp and fresh). But the spices were great. Now, I have to find out how to contact the owners. I wonder if they will read this and give me information on how to contact them. Let's see. Not given my order as take-out. Given Naan buttered with ghee. Badly short-changed! How does this business stay in business?

If you like spicy, I highly highly recommend their Chole Bhature, its the best! My other favorites are Paneer Capsicum and Malai Kofta curries - all good! The samosas are decent too. This place is more like an Indian 'dhaba' as far as the ambiance goes, don't expect a fancy setup but delicious food! I'm guessing it mostly operates as a take out. One small complaint - the green chutney is terrible...I don't understand why anyone would add artificial green color to mint chutney!

Delhi Kitchen is a standout hole in the wall restaurant in Poway that seems to be frequented more by suburban non-Indian patrons due to their more toned down North Indian style of cuisine. Compared to the more well known Punjabi Tandoor, Delhi has lighter tasting food but a slightly better selection at a marginally lower price as well. Delhi Kitchen knows how to do naan well: static2.px.yelp.com/bpho… Their naan is light, fluffy, and tender. Other places might burn it, make it too oily, or bake it too thin and crispy. Not Delhi though, as they warm up the naan at a lower heat just the right amount such that it comes out fresh and slightly golden in some patches. Our hero was pleased when he added a mango lassi to his order. They blend them fresh with sweet ripe mangoes and it's 127% better tasting than Jamba Juice. And at $2.50 a pop, they're more affordable than Jamba as well! PROS: - A good variety of food that tastes good, but isn't overly spicy. - The $6.99 weekend buffet is a steal and you can get totally stuffed on pakora, vegetable korma, aloo chaat, chicken tikki masala, and more. CONS: - Limited seating. - Styrofoam plates and containers only. Not very eco-friendly.

It may not look like much from the outside, but Delhi Kitchen is a great place. This is my go-to spot when I'm hungry for Indian food. Everything is good and well-balanced. They don't over-do it with the spices or anything like that. They just make good food.

The curry sauce isnt spicey enough and the side salad I got was wilted. They were using unfresh lettuce. I might give them another chance if I am in the area.

Chicken tikka was tender and delish, tandoori chicken awesome seasoning, lentils (daal) spicy and tasty. Fresh naan, spicy homemade hit sauces, cool yogurt salads...yummo

Great Indian food option in the Carmel mountain area. I recommend the shrimp vindalu and chicken masala. Always my go to options for Indian food. They never dissapoint! Get a combo and try a little of all the sides to get a variety. They let us sample to see which one we liked the best. I liked the food and the prices are really reasonable but its not quite as good as Punjabi Tandoor in Mira Mesa, which is the best in San Diego I have seen so far.

What a great restaurant. The main focus of this place is not so much the furnishing but the food which I really appreciate. The best part is that price is very reasonable. Two item combos are just a little over 6 bucks (great bargain). The two item combo comes with a salad and one of the best naan in san diego in my opinion. Pros: - Great Bargain - The food is spot on, real flavorful and satisfying - Consistent - Great Customer Service Cons: - Tiny, there's only a few tables in side. However, there are seats outside

Every time I go to the Carmel Mountain Costco, I stop by the nearby Trader Joe's as well. During one such shopping trip is when I stumbled upon Delhi Kitchen, one of the best kept secrets for Indian food in the area. This past Easter Sunday, Costco was closed and both my refrigerator and my belly were empty so I decided to drop in to drown my woes in curry. Originally seeking to order the 3-item meat plate, I was elated to see their buffet offered at the same price and opted for that instead. I tried a number of different items but my favorites were definitely the chicken tikka masala, the saag paneer, and the naan. The naan was especially impressive and I would actually return just for that. While it may not be the cleanest or largest restaurant in the world, I would highly recommend checking this place out for their weekend buffet special. While I've heard great things about Punjabi Tandoor, given the choice I would definitely prefer to come to Delhi Kitchen instead. If it weren't such a heavy meal, I would probably considering coming every weekend as an aside to my weekly grocery run. Food: 9/10 Service: 6/10 Price: $ Atmosphere: 6/10

My husband and I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!!!! It has been a long time since we found super delicious Indian Food. (Bonus: Pink Berry is a few doors down!) We were in the area and decided to try this place after seeing the good reviews and we were not disappointed. Service is no nonsense, it's a very small place, and options are not vast - but the food is YUMMY! It felt like we were invited to an Indian friends home for her mothers Home Cooking! No frills. Just good food.

  • Joe Q.

You think it'd be a bad version of Indian food because it looks small, small counter, and tiny eating area. But coming from someone who ain't Indian, this place really compares to many other places I've been. They have very reasonable deals like 2 and 3 item plates with either yogurt or salad. Get the coupon on their website to save $2 of 2 combos. I got the tandori chicken, chamm?, tika masala with naan and yogurt. The chamm? was spicy! That's how i like it. There's a buffet on Saturdays and Sundays, but the selection seems too small to actually come here for that. I really like this place, but if there was a little more variety it would be a lot better.

I was in town... I had been fasting the whole day 'cause of blood work. Called up the cousin to try out something new and I was staaaarving! We wanted to stay local so we went on yelp and found Delhi Kitchen! It was lunch time and it was poppin'! We both got the chicken tikka masala, which was MOST EXCELLENTTTTT! My cousin got the vegetable korma and I got the aloo gobi. Both were awesome as well. The aloo gobi was tastefully spiced... and I just like potatoes :3. So yeah, lunch special was $5.99; you have your choice of two entrees, with rice, salad and naan. Om nom nom naan. Service was awesome, everyone was nice. Oh, I could not breathe 'cause I was so full. SOOO good. I WILL BE BACK to try the other stuff! Like the goat curry... mMm sounded awesomeee.

Ive only been here once, and I'm sure I'll be back again. I'm not one to care about decor and aesthetics so this is purely based on the food. I was craving Indian food and Delhi Kitchen was close. I ordered the 3 item combo: chicken tikka masala, chicken curry and the yogurt. The combo came with naan and rice. Long story short, the best part was the naan. The chicken curry tasted old and the tikka masala was creamier than what I'm used to. Then again, this was the food that was sitting out under a heat lamp a large part of the day. Next time I'll splurge a little and order from the actual menu. I must say however, the prices were very reasonable and I didn't suffer from rocket butt the morning after.

Since I first ate here and reviewed this place last summer we've been here EASILY 50 times lol. We've gone for early lunch, late lunch, early dinner and late dinner...we've even tried the weekend buffet which is amazing! Sandeep knows us by now (she's the younger girl with the pretty eyes who's usually behind the register), and we've brought several people here who have become fans and go on their own. This place is ALWAYS busy from the time they open until they close at 9pm. Weekend, weekday, rain or shine the foot traffic in this place never stops. At times it's impossible to find a place to sit, even at the tables outside neighboring businesses because Delhi Kitchen is just overflowing with people! Some of the things I love about this place that others have also probably mentioned.. - mango lassi - Indian beer! Try it, it's actually good :D - non-american soda....tastes so much better without all that HFCS - fresh naan baked in an authentic oven for every order - friendly owners/staff - wide selection of food that's always changing - Chicken tikka masala -- seriously, I. CAN'T. GET. ENOUGH. Must have moar! D: They almost always have it, it's one of their staples. The palak paneer is really good too when they have it, SUPER spicy. And the veggie curry is a great staple that they almost always have. We're moving down closer to the CM/Mira Mesa area in about a month. We're probably going to move into Delhi Kitchen, we could probably already be considered part-time residents.

I've been here a couple of times. I'd say it's pretty good. It's not the best, but I do like that I can get a lunch special for a decent price there, unlike one of my favorite places where I have to order ala carte (including the rice) which is expensive. So for the money, it's pretty good. I'll continue to go when I have a hankering at lunch time, for sure.

Indian fast-food?!?! I'm soo there! I really enjoyed this place. Their chicken tikka masala was very, very tastey.. and the potato/green pepper dish was very well seasoned! It's a very small place with limited seating inside.. but they also have an outdoor setup.. so I'm sure there are plenty of places to sit... I definitely want to go back and try everything else they offer.. they also do a buffet on the weekends.. Definitely try this out!

  • Anders N.

Not sure why I keep coming here. The naan is usually a bit burned, the offerings on the buffet almost never change, and the place is cramped and often dirty. It's okay once in awhile but there are better options. I'm going to treat myself better and come here less from now on.

One of the Best Indian food restaurant in SAN DIEGO. I have been eating here since past 4 years, they never disappointed me. There paneer tikka masala and baingan (eggplant) bhartha are very good. I tried all different kinds of food from there menu and most of my friends also order food from delhi kitchen for any parties. The only problem is some curries have lot of oil but if tell them to put elss oil they can always do that for you. This is the only place where you can replace nan(white bread) with fresh roti (wheat bread) at lunch time. Would recommend this place any day for Indian food.

  • Paula D.

The problem with this place is that you just can't stop eating the tasty food. I am on the always dreaded diet and went here thinking I would eat half my lunch and give the rest to the teenager. He ate his lunch and after my retracted eyelids came back into place and the haze of a food frenzy abated, the plate was empty. So delicious!

We moved from Chicago and have lived in Atlanta before that- both hubs of great Indian restaurants. Finding this small gem so close to our home was a surprise. They have ok buffet items but the quick cook for you entrees gives you a true indian roadside food feel. I loved the Naan....my wife has relished the vegetable dishes. I think some non-veg dishes like tandoori chicken and chicken tikka masala can be better. The chicken curry is good. I tried the parantha (stuffed bread) which is not what you expect so better avoid them- too expensive and not great stuff. They have good combos and a reasonable buffet. Will keep trying and updating. The ambience is not where you can take friends to sit down and hangout.

  • Chef S.

The best Indian Food I've had, overall. An Indian Man told me to try this. he said it was better than the fancier places. Best Spinach Paneer/Best Goat curry, Best Chicken Maslala. I am a Chef and know Indian cooking well. I would have given 5 stars, but had the following problems. 1. Goat curry had little meat--was a rip off. All bone and fat. 2. Tandoori chicken lacking flavor, but it was cooked just right. 3. Veggie Korma too sweet and needed more cauliflower--hardly any. 4. They didn't have lamb samosa, so I tried chicken and it was very bad, old, and dried out. Overcooked meat. 5. Containers don't hold enough for the buck. Poor value for a to go place. I guess the combinations are the way to go. A. The Byrani Rice was very good, but I like 8 Elements and Bawarchi Dosa better--it is softer and more sticky and flavorful. B. The Veg samosa is quite good, but had a bit too much potato and not enough cauliflower. During the buffet, I put the Keema ground Lamb into the samosa and it was awesome. C. The Naan is the best! Soft! D. I was wondering why the food was so good, but we feel awful after we eat it, and get a MSG headache. I can tell there is a lot of MSG and fat. It tastes good, but not good for you. I will still go back for some sinful food....just not often. D. Their mint sauce was spoiled, but the second visit it was ok. Tastes a bit strange compared to other places. There is 1 ingredient they need to remove---is a sour bitter taste. It is almost there. I'm going to try curry chicken and lamb next time. If they're are not dry or tough, I will be happy. That is the biggest mistake Indian places have. Overcooked dried out food. That is because, in their country, the meat is more dangerous, so it was to be cooked well. They need to adjust for America. This place does a nice job, regarding that, as seen so far.

Wow! We heard about this yesterday and after a banging holiday party came here for some Indian food!! Had the $7 all you can eat weekend buffet Available between 11-3pm. Fresh naan that you will die for and best option was the chicken tikka - took me right back to England! It is the national dish you see and not the coomonly thought fish & chips. Bollyqood played in the corner - and locals piled in to eat. Great sign! We ate more fresh naan and then at bust my zipper moment - stopped back home for a Sunday Kip! If I summarized this in one word "Bangin'"

I'm upping the stars on this one to 4. The food is pretty standard Indian (likely Americanized but how am I to know?), but it is cheap, large portions, consistently tasty and it is one of the only Indian places in the area. Finally, last time we went they were serving a goat curry combo! That was definitely not typical. I ordered mine mild thinking to share with my son, but it came out quite spicy (just the way I personally like it) and it was made fresh. It all worked out as my husband's food was milder. Thank goodness Delhi Kitchen is here to give us North County folks some cheap, tasty Indian food to eat every once in a while. Passage to India is way too expensive and I would say that the food is comparable.

This review is for the lunch buffet. The vegetable dishes were okay.. the chickpeas and the naan were the best part of meal.. the mixed veggies (navratna korma) was sweet and bland. The dal was okay, but I have had better ones.. there was nothing extra ordinary that would make us want to come back here.... take it from someone who is Indian and loves Indian food.. you can find better places in San Diego!

We have eaten here twice and the food is tasty for a fast food type atmosphere. We have only ordered combos from the food counter. I always get the 2 meat/1 vege combo with the tandoori chicken/ chicken curry and probably the saag paneer and my husband does two orders of the chicken tikka masala and the potatoes. The prices are really great and the portions are nice. The chicken tikka is nice and creamy but my husband is used to one with a tangy flavor but that's our only complaint if at all.

I've been wanting to try this place for some time now. And finally I did...Totally worth $5.99 for the 2 item combo which is plenty of food to last you for both lunch and dinner - at least it did for me. For $5.99, you ger 2 item choices - although limited - but the 2 choices I had were fine: chicken curry and chicken tikka masala. In addition, it comes with rice, salad with yogurt, and 2 large hot pieces of naan. Fast food at it's finest especially when you're hungry and are looking for something affordable. The food was pretty good - similar to some of the upscale Indian restaurants closeby. The chicken was really soft and the naan had me snacking on it all day. Although it was plain, I really enjoyed their naan. Go to their website delhikitchen.com and print coupons to save even more money. It'll help you out in times of recession or if you want to use the extra money for dessert :)

I happened to stop by accident at this place with my wife and I was pleasantly surprised. They do have an a la carte menu, but most people seem to be ordering whatever selection they have ready at the counter. They have 3-4 curries, 4-5 vegetarian items, and they serve you rice with it as well. The place is owned and operated by a family and there are many regulars. They make their own delicious naans and the prices are ridiculously cheap. Most customers seems to order for take out, although you can also dine in, but there are only 2-3 tables, so do not expect a romantic night out. No ambiance, no service whatsoever, just order, get your plate on take off. At any rate, for well less than 20$ you can have very decent indian food and you will not regret it. Oh, the also make a really good mango lassi !

I love Indian food and had a hankering for some today. I looked on Yelp to find any good places nearby since I am still relatively new to this area and I found this place. Yelp did me right today. My husband and I had the Veggie Korma and the Chicken Tikka Masala along with an order of Samosas and garlic Naan. The food was surprisingly good. It's not the best I've ever been to but it is really good. I haven't tried any other places in the area yet so I can't compare it to other places nearby. I'm glad I tried it. I will probably be back since it's not too far from home and like I said it is good. The pictures didn't look too appetizing but the food actually looks better in real life than it did in the pictures I saw on here.

I don't know what people think when they rate a restaurant. This is NOT a four star place by any means. The food is decent and if this review was based on just food I would give it three stars, I have had better Indian food though... I guess most people are cheap and will base their reviews on price only. This place gives dirty a new meaning...I am just imagining what the inside of the kitchen would look like.. IT is not a place I would go again.. but one star is not. I would rate restaurant one star if I get something inedible which I have had in the past but not here though.. Over all a mom and pop shop that could DO way better .. re paint the wall.. clean the tables.. steam clean the kitchen .. buy some decent equipment and I bet you will do twice the business you do...

Ok so IMHO it really is a toss up between this place and Punjabi Tandoor for the best Indian food in SD. I will go for Delhi Kitchen for their consistency. Plus they have some really outstanding items on their menu (e.g. Chilli Paneer). The prices are fair and the combos are a good value. They also don't nickel and dime if you want to substitute something minor. Best baingan bhartha in town!!!

Excellent hole in the wall joint with the best food and prices in the CMR/RB area. I have yet to stumble across better naan bread in san diego - perfectly textured. They've got great tasting food, and are very cheap. Their lunch special is $5.50 for the 2 veggie item meal (includes salad and naan) so it's much cheaper than most of the places in SD. Despite the cost, you WILL BE FULL. The ladies behind the counter are sooooo nice too. The samosas and pakoras are excellent, though slightly greasy. My only real complaint with this place is that on some days they have a weak selection of entrees they put out. Other minor complaints/annoyances are: might be tight for a table on the weekends during buffet time and the place is not the cleanest/nicest but I will always make an exception for the food and price. Within 5 miles, I'd say passage to india is the next best option but they're 2x more expensive and I'd say I prefer the taste of delhi kitchen. If you want better indian food I'd say travel 10 miles to miramar/black mt.

OH GREAT NAAN, THOU ART SO YUMMY, DELICIOUS, YUMMY IN MY TUMMY This place is cheap, fast, friendly and has the best homemade naan EVER. It's sooo fresh and crispy and has just the right amount of sizzling burnt-ness to it. Mmm...crunchy.

I was craving indian food, but didn't want to go to a sit down type restaurant. They serve combos that included rice, naan, salad or yogurt. I'm not an expert on Inidan food, but the food was tasty. I'd go back, but not because of customer service. The gal helping me gave me a smile with MUCH effort. She handled my order in a good amount of time. But she was talking on the phone helping that customer, while trying to ring me through.

I have been going to Delhi Kitchen for years now and I have to say it's one of the most delicious restaurants San Diego, particularly for Indian food. The other Indian food restaurants around just don't cut it. This place is tiny, there is absolutely no decorum so it's not a place to bring a date or anything. It's located in a shopping center in Rancho Bernardo shopping center so sitting outside isn't that nice either but i enjoy people watching so I don't mind. The weekend all you can eat lunch buffet is a great deal and a good way to try some new things but the food sits out in warmers so it's better to get it fresh. Take-out is your best option. The food is made to order and is hot and delicious. I bring it home when I'm hanging out with friends or family and everyone loves it. My favorites are the chicken tikka masala, vegetable korma, saag paneer, and the yummy fried pakora. All orders also come with some of the best naan bread I've ever had (also comes in garlic which I don't like but my dad does). Because it's Indian food they have lots of vegetarian options. It's family owned and operated. Everyone is extremely nice and can assist you in choosing something if you're not experienced with Indian food. I highly recommend Delhi kitchen!

5 for nan! No wait, 10 for naan! Fresh ! Hot! Yum! Even if you don't like Indian food spices just go get some of that naan bread thing! - chicken Tikki Masala was very yummy! 5 Rice 4! (but who cares about the white rice tho) Ambience 0 ;) it's almost a whole in a wall so it's not a fancy restaurant...u do have an option of sitting outside .....it's a pretty small place...staff was pretty friendly... We will be back!

I've come here a lot- and the service is always great. The family that runs the place are super nice! We usually get the food to-go and they pack it up nicely so you don't have to worry about curry dripping or anything. Of all the curries I've tried, the Veggie Korma is my favorite- and they almost always have it ready in the serving dishes in the front. Their Saag's are good - but pretty spicy. The samosa are heavy but yummy. The salad isn't anything special, but a good change of pace while eating your meal. My favorite part of the food is the Naan. It's pretty simple yet there's something so tasty about it!

This is your absolute best and cheapest hole in the wall Indian joint you can ever find in San Diego and I love them! I'm pretty sure the owners laugh at me behind my back each time I show up famished and anxious while I place multiple take out orders, but I couldn't care less because I'm really just shameless when it comes to eating. They have take out and AYCE options and both are cheap and affordable. A 2 item combination is $5.99 and last time I checked, their AYCE was $7.99. I've always had their chicken masala and vege korma here and both are so delicious, I would only occasionally dab into the other entrees. The lamb curry though was a little mediocre when I had it. The tandoori chicken however, was great. The naans are all made fresh and each combination comes with 2 generously sized naans. The setting is pretty much a hole in the wall, a very small counter features about 8 selections of their curry and entrees. The place itself can sit about 20-25 people maximum, its tiny and its a family owned business. You will see the parents and their kids working here and a couple of other random workers, but its what makes me love this place even more. If you want a nice sit in restaurant with plenty of AC, this isn't your place, but if you want a great cheap Indi

first a brief lecture -- get the YELP app or do a little homework whenever you venture out of your hood into parts unknown. i had some business in RANCHO BERNARDO (far from my regular stomping grounds in CARLSBAD) and didn't want to finish up early afternoon too ravenous to say "no" to MICKEY D's or maybe someplace worse (is there someplace worse ??). anyway, have a plan and avoid the mega chains. support the local mom and pop shops ... eating at DELHI KITCHEN really reminded me how meat-centric nearly all "american" food is. ethnic restaurants often provide a lot of interesting alternatives for folks that are not as fond of bacon as i am. was there for lunch on friday and the place was packed. short line at the counter -- basically a steam table full of prepared choices, served on styrofoam plates with plastic forks. personally i am very okay with that but so you know ... everything is very home style -- like eating at someone's home. the CHICKEN CURRY was just all right. the flavor was interesting and it was nice and spicy (a plus) but the texture of the chicken was thready. CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA was really good. mild (a minus) but the chicken had a great texture and the flavor was off the charts. lots of amazing NAAN for little bites and to scoop up all the "gravy" -- soft and unctuous (not stiff like when i make it). so, next time you're in that neighborhood ...

  • Kristen J.

This place is not the bee's knees. The dishes I had were WAY too mild, almost flavorless. Naan was disgusting, I could barely eat it. Rice was also not cooked correctly. Raita was actually really superb, I will give them that. Take the extra time to drive to Mira Mesa for some real indian food.

Yummy, spicy Indian food! What's not to like?? 2-3 items for about $6. Super spicy food - especially the vegetarian dishes. Bollywood movies playing in the background. And there's a different item available each time (so I can find my favorites and add something else to try - or re-try).

This place has the best Indian food around that is super cheap!! The all you can eat buffet on the weekends is waaay cheap and you can eat until you explode! The only thing is that sometimes there isn't a huge variety of food, but hey, it's cheap so who cares! Also, the naan is top notch!

I never know what I am eating when it comes to Indian food. I can't ever remember what I ordered. I refer to them by color - "the yellow one please.", "The green one please". Sometimes I taste the chicken only because of the texture. That being said. IT'S SO GOOOD! I didn't think I like Indian food until I found this place. I always buy extra naan because I want to make sure I eat every last drop of that curry. Oh the sauce that comes with Samosas are so good! I don't know what they are though. It's the green and brown sauce. ah. I crave!

Easily the best Naan bread in San Diego. Everything about this place is very authentic. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs an Indian food fix. This place is so cheap, I often tip just because I feel like it's too good of a deal. This is can't miss food!

BEST INDIAN FOOD the family that owns this place is amazing. I've spilled soda all over the floor yesterday, and they all laughed and didnt make me feel terrible. (i do this alot) I eat here all the time, the Vegi Korma is MIND-BLOWING, and two veggie entries, naan, rice and a salad is 5.50! Such a good deal for Indian food. this place is always busy, but its great food. the parking kinda sucks because it is in a big shopping mall.. if you go at odd hours its easier. For the price, I'd say this is the best Indian food in San Diego, I've spent 60 dollars for 2 people downtown to get roughly the same amount of food.

I've only eaten there once, but the Chicken Curry combo was economical, filling, and VERY tasty. Fresh nann is a major + I'd definitely go back.

Great Indian food! This place is a bit tucked away but a great find. The meals were plentiful and it didn't cost much. I have to admit I didn't like everything I ordered but that's probably just my personal taste, but overall the food here is good. Compared to other similar Indian restaurants in the general vicinity, I've got to say this place is at the top of my list so far.

Family-owned Cozy Fair prices Certain options are delicious but very spicy (watch out) "hole-in-the-wall" location (which I love!) I always get their chicken tikka masala which is creamy and so good. Their chicken is so tender. Chicken that isn't cooked right can be so dry, agreed? Their saag paneer and other saag dishes are pretty spicy. And so far, every meat item that is not chicken tikka masala that I have tried was spicy. Good but spicy. They have several combo options ranging from $5-$8 dollars. All of their combos come with rice, naan, and a salad. You may choose between the meat and/or vegetable dishes that are offered.

I don't have much money, yet I like to stuff my face. Which is why Delhi Kitchen is PERFECT for me! I've never gone during a weekday but they have weekend lunch buffets for just under $7. Uhhh whaaa? Unlimited Indian curry for under $7? Where do I sign up? Right in Carmel Mtn - that's where! I don't know much about Indian food, which is why the weekend buffet is great. You can try the variety of dishes and decide what you like best. To top it all, the family that owns this place is very friendly! We will definitely keep going back!

A solid four stars for a tasty, healthy, and affordable dinner even on a Saturday night. The service was fast, though I did go at a not-so-busy time on a Saturday night. It looks more like a lunch or quick dinner type of place, and we were able to eat our meals relatively quickly. The meal is served on a styrofoam plate, which looks deceptively small but is very filling with the rice and naan. Plus one star: The naan wasn't burnt like it often is at other places.

The chicken they use in all the curries tastes very questionable. It smells bad and has very bad taste. I really suspect that they buy the boneless chicken in bulk, cut them, freeze them and use them for months...we usually just throw away all the chickens...

Yummy, cheap enough and quick. A great meal for vegetarians. The facility is too small and not the cleanest, but I keep returning for the food. The garlic naan is not included in the meal price, but is well worth the extra couple of bucks. Parking is adequate.

  • Johnny Z.

I eat here about once a week. Prices are low, food is good, and the naan is amazing. It's your standard fast food indian joint, with the option to purchase more elaborate dishes if you want to sit around and wait. The standing food prices go from 5.99-6.99 for multiple entrees, but the portions are large enough. It's great to have some Indian options in Carmel Mountain Ranch - enough with the chain restaurants!

A great place with great customer service. I've been going here for years, and I love this place. They have generous portions for the prices they charge, and their naan bread, (especially their garlic nann), is awesome. I also love their veggie somosas. With that said, it one of the best TAKE-OUT Indian restaurants I've been too. What I mean by that is, by take-out restaurant standards, this place is one of the best Indian places I've been too. However, compared to some sit-down Indian restaurants the quality seems to not be up to par. However when you factor in the price and how much food they give you, it kind of evens itself out. Customer service is an extremely important part of the experience for me, and their customer service is one of the main reasons I keep coming back again and again. They always greet me with a smile, and the service is pretty quick, except when it's crowded. I once waited around 20 minutes for my order to get finished, but they apologized for the wait, so I was able to get over it. Overall this place is one of my favorite places to go to eat. I try to go here at least a few times a month.

Delicious, cheap and fast Indian food. We live around the corner and when we have the craving for Indian, this is our go-to place. It's a really small place so it gets packed and the wait time is usually 15-20 minutes so we usually call in our orders and pick up. Their tika masala is extra fragrant and creamy!

I love Indian food and this place always hits the right spot when I need a fix. It's not a fancy sit down restaurant but if you just want some good saag paneer or whatever after work, then this place will do you right. The people are always friendly and in fact they always know my order too. Decent prices and good portions make me a frequent customer. And they got Indian beer too if you need it (I know I do sometimes).

I have been going to Delhi Kitchen since it first opened years ago. I made friends with the owners and their daughter. They have a son too who has now grown big. They are very nice people and very friendly. We love their spicy curries and naan. We always and I mean always, order the chicken tikka masala, chicken saag and garlic naan. They have become so popular that they were nominated in the Channel 10 ABC news Best of Series their first or second year out and their pick up times have increased to 20 or 30 minutes because of the dinner rush. Please stop by here and try their food or take out. They only offer a few tables and only for groups smaller than 5 or 6 people. We like to order a la carte because it is more fresh than the entrees they have in the heating pans. I like to watch the Indian programs on the tv in the back even though I can't understand them. It's a familial custom now. thank you for the delicious food. :-)

All You Can Eat Saturday and Sunday!!! LOVE IT! When I need my Indian food fix, I come here! :) The owners/chef are such nice people. The first time we came here they were informative and answered any questions we had and let us sample the dishes. The na'an bread is SOO delicious! Warm, soft, fluffy, just oh-so-great!!!! That is one of the first things that is gone during the all-you-can-eat session. The tandoori, as others have mentioned, is a little dry. The masala is GREAT! Smooth, creamy, and perfectly seasoned! I forgot the names of the other dishes, but I am an avid fan of the cauliflower/potato dish and the spinach dish. I always have to have the veggie/meat combo. The yogurt sauce is plain, but everything else is delicious! Go try and mango drink--it's cool and refreshing! :)

This actually might be better than Punjabi Tandoor! Granted, I went at lunch hour and ordered from the menu fresh instead of the buffet, so my rating might be slightly skewed. But WOW! I got the Saag Paneer and the Chicken Tikka Masala here. I also had a bite of the Lamb Saag and Shrimp Masala. Everything was spectacularly good and incredibly good prices! (like $5.50 per curry). The garlic naan was also soft and tasty. Very very good. The place looks like a B grade on the health rating, and is a little too crowded, but trust me...this is goooood stuff! Owned by a nice family and absolutely delectable. My mouth is watering right nowwwww! FANTASTIC find for cheap, fast, delicious comfort food Indian!

A whole in the wall and I like it. I go there once every week pretty much. The naans are so good, they only serve them fresh from the oven. They rotate they dishes but have a few "best sellers" that are always there such as the Potatoes and the veggie korma. The Spinach dish cooked with cream and cheese is also good. Highly recommended and I also advised you to eat there and not take it to go because by the time you get to eat your food, the naan will be all saggy.

I went to this place like 3 years ago and thought it was pretty good..... I got some togo Indian last night and was blown away..... I have been to the "best" Indian joints in London ..... Delhi was just as good if not better. I will be a loyal customer from now on .... Or until they go down hill. My review is for the made to order food... The buffet is a solid 3 star.

Not much to add to the previous reviews. The fact that it's frequented by actual (South) Asians is encouraging, the naans (real tandoor!) and curries (more spice than I'm used to getting from a cafeteria-style establishment, yum!) were better than I expected for the price, and seating and atmosphere were cozy but not off-putting. Also, I'll repeat others who observed, "Good Indian bottled beer selection." I had a bite of my spouse's rasmalai and was very pleased yet again; not too sweet and with a depth of flavor I'd expect at a much more expensive restaurant. I'll definitely be back.

This hole in the wall could easily be missed among the brighter more recognizable restaurants - but it shouldn't be. Although the space is small and a little too warm for dine in (in my opinion) this is great place for tasty, fast, authentic Indian food. I ordered the chili paneer combination - so for around six bucks I got a huge helping of the chili paneer, of which I got to choose the level of heat, jasmine rice, daal, salad, and a huge piece of really soft chewy naan. Really good. My companion opted for the lunch special of two meat items (he chose chicken tikka and lamb keema) with all of the same side goodies I got for under six bucks. We were both stuffed and smiling at the end. The food was good, the restaurant clean, and service friendly. That's the trifecta in my book - we'll be back for sure.

I used to work nearby and now I've moved to bay area. Tonight I went to another Indian restaurant for dinner, and just started to miss this little place. I used to went there for lunch with my Indian coworker like 3 times a week. Even for $5.99 lunch combo, the naan was always made to order. Chicken tikka masala and butter chicken were so rich in flavor. I am so spoiled by this place, most of Indian restaurants disappoint me. So sad.

I have seen this seen way too often and it's hilarious every time. Yuppie, Hipster, faux sophisticat, know-it-all: the response is all the same. As Billy Joel sang before I was even born "After a while and a thousand miles, it all becomes the same" (The Entertainer; 1974) ------ Yuppie walks into Delhi Kitchen, having read the reviews on Yelp. Yuppie scans the menu, wants to be adventurous but is really chickens**t. Scans the buffet food. Expectations falling rapidly. Quickly orders the generic dish with a base of tomato paste + heavy cream because it looks like spaghetti sauce. Yuppie says, "I'll take THAT TEE-KAW MUSS-AH-LAW". And then the yuppie, feeling more adventurous, orders something very different. Yuppie orders Vegetable Korma. Only thing is that the former dish has a 2:1 tomato to cream ratio, whereas the latter has 1:2 ratio. Yuppie eats. Food tastes bland, and well, similar. Well, duh, hardly anyone in Delhi eats Tikka Masala or Vegetable Korma. Yuppie feels bummed out. Yuppie gets a long face and starts noticing the imperfections in the food, cutlery, ambiance, floor, wall, paintings, ceilings, air quality, humidity etc. Yuppie goes home and trashes the place on Yelp. Yuppie feels good, like a racist person who defends himself/herself by saying "but I have black friends" just that those are hi-and-bye "friends" one does not hang out with. --------- Yuppies, buffet dishes are NOT entrees. As for the scene I describe so poorly, come to DK and witness it for yourself! :)

Tried the weekend buffet after my neighbors recommended it. A small selection but everything was delicious, and all for the low price of $7.99. A few of the vegetarian entries had a bit of heat to them which I find favorable. Found the veggie curry pakora to be really good, even good enough to bring a friend a side order home. Add a new buffet to the radar.

I was bummed when the Indian buffet place next to the Original Pancake House closed (next to Target/Albertson's/Outback) in Poway. I tried Delhi Kitchen a long time ago and wasn't very impressed, but they may have a new owner. I decided to try Delhi Kitchen's lunch buffet today. Tandoori chicken was much better than most casual Indian buffets....very savory and tender (salted just right). I was suprised how good the Chicken Curry was. The Veggie Korma wasn't too bad. The Nan was cooked right and was very tasty. I will try some items from their dinner menu in the future. I can recommend this place as having good casual Indian food.

The food is really good and the price is great. Fresh Naan and rice with all entrees. It's a great lunch spot and usually pretty busy. It is a small hole in the wall type place but the food is consistently good.

I'm not sure why the reviews for this place are so great. They have a poor selection (there were only 4 veggie curries out to choose from- none of which were saag paneer!) Naan didn't taste good at all. I would go as far as to say even trader joes has better naan. Rice was not fresh. There were hard pieces in it.

Whenever I eat at an Italian restaurant I always think other patrons are looking at me thinking "There's an Italian eating here, so it must be good". I debated Delhi Kitchen due to outward appearances at first, but decided to give it a whirl in time for my weekly meal of decadence. I pulled up and two southeast Asian families were also inside enjoying some lunch. It must be good, right? It is! I had a very reasonably priced lunch special on a Sunday which was amazing in itself and chose chicken tikka masala, which was very tender and delicious and something else which I was warned was spicy but turned out to have just the right amount of kick. They also made my bread when I ordered my food so it was obviously very fresh. I spent my cheat meal for the week at Delhi Kitchen this week and it did not disappoint. Good reasonably priced Indian food only a few blocks away. Yay! I'm a fan!

    |==============================================| |============ Awesome Food Alert ===============| |==============================================| I am giving this place 5 stars because of the last lunch I had here, the goat curry special. Why so special? Well I'm glad you asked. A. The goat was cooked perfectly. It was still moist, and tender enough to pull apart easily. B. They give you two pieces of bone, full of delicious bone marrow! C. The flavors were excellent. This one plate helped me find something I've been missing since I moved away from home... bone marrow, cooked in an Indian curry. Now I understand, not everyone gets this excited about marrow. But I know there is some kindred spirit out there, reading this right now, close to tears because of the awesome news this review has brought into their lives. The awesomenisity cannot be understood unless you have grown up eating the marrow, but then moved away from home... (and have been too lazy to try making it on your own). It was a dream come true. Enjoy!

Eating at Delhi Kitchen was fair. Perhaps I am spoiled after moving out here from West Philly, home of several small, family-owned, and delicious Indian restaurants and even food carts, but I was a little underwhelmed at the weekend buffet available for $7.99. Pros: 1. decent dal makhni 2. some outside seating (good, since none was available inside) 3. OK chicken tikka masala Cons: 1. tandoori chicken was quite fatty and a bad cut of mostly dark meat 2. saag paneer was underspiced 3. buffet did not include any lamb dishes (disclaimer: my favorite Indian entree is lamb saag) Delhi Kitchen is OK if you need your Indian fix in this neighborhood but is not worth a special trip.

Hello: Don't be fooled by the stars given to this restaurant - these folks don't know Indian food! This is low-end, low-budget ingredients made into low quality Indian food. The first tipoff is the chicken tikki masala - it simply is not. You have to travel to other places to know what the true sauce is really suppose to taste like. Theirs is really a bad form of butter chicken - bland and just plain questionable. In addition, I thought one of the other curries hinted of ketchup, but can't tell for sure (hopefully I'm wrong)! The condiments are watered down - never have I had over-fried samosas with watered down mint and tamarind chutney!!! It's crazy. I've been there twice and they were consistent in delivering subpar Indian food. I've given it two stars because the naan is actually quite nice and the food is affordable. However, people should really expect more. Look up what tandoori chicken is and how its prepared. Then go and find some of the real stuff. You will then ask yourself how tandoori chicken can be sold without a clay oven and without the pure spice blend. BTW, chicken tikki masala made with cubes of clay-oven tandoori chicken is unbeatable, but seldom seen. Expect more my friends. Cheers! ps. check your orders - mine came up with the raita missing twice.

Came by to grab a quick dinner but was pretty disappointed with their food, especially since this place was rated so highly. Entrees was not so fresh and were very watery with not much substance. Their nan bread was tasteless, and the rice was ehh. Service was pretty good - lady at the counter gave me some samples to taste, since there were only three vegan entrees. Also the animated movie they were playing was entertaining. If I were you I'd drive a lil' more and go to Passage to India, in RB. Much much better selection with humongous quantity, albeit pricier.

Everyday that have lunch and dinner specials. On weekends they have an all-you-can-eat buffet special for only $6.99 (which, I have yet to try). When it comes to Indian cuisine, I love: - Saag Panner (curried spinach with Indian cheese cubes) - Chicken Tikka Masala (chicken breast cooked with onions and tomato gravy). - Garlic Naan In our recent visit, my fiance ordered the goat curry special. It was good, but it was also very spicy (but that's to be expected with Indian food). I also recommend the Baingan Aloo (eggplant and potato gravy). They also serve Mango Lassi (a traditional Indian drink). I also enjoy that all their combinations come with rice, naan, daal, and your choice of rita (yogurt) or salad. Prices range from 6.75 to 7.50 for combinations. Don't be fooled by their small location because they have a wide selection of food, from their vegetable combinations, chicken or lamb specialties to seafood, desserts, and snacks! There's always something new for me to try!

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!!! When I need my Indian food fix this is my go-to place. I've tried every single dish and I can't out pick my favorite because it's all so good. The staff is friendly and the service is excellent. The place is a little grimey looking but I like it. It gives it a hole-in-a-wall type of vibe. I recommened Delhi Kitchen to all my family and friends and no complaints so far.

I order the from the buffet items. i never see a yuppie in here evAR (except for Zinzan R). Seriously, i see NO ONE in here. Its always dead as hell. Avoid the passive aggressive conservative hippie reviews and order whatever is comfortable for you. I get the 2 side combo for 5.99.. one meat item, one veg, or 2 meat items. Comes with rice, salad, and naan bread. I always order their samosa's cause they're only $1 and is all veggie + good as heck. I've tried the vegetable korma on several occasions.. IT TASTES LIKE CAULIFLOWER MASHED POTATOES.. sshhhhiiiieetttttt. Marsala anything is always a good choice. You can be adventurous and get the GOAT meat dish, but its 8 bucks or some "not worth it" amount. This is a relatively simple "fast food" indian joint, comparable to your neighborhood .99 cent chinese food place. A person wouldn't eat at one of those joints and fake the funk by claiming to be an "mandarin food expert". 2 stars for this place because of convenience, there isn't an indian joint anywhere up here.. and price which is hard to beat (according to my patented '$5 footlong price comparison' chart). One extra star for the small ass tv playing strange indian music vids. good stuff. BTW, if you order it in a TO GO box, you'll get more food. TRUST ME.

This is a good, basic, affordable North Indian place that is best for take out. The stars go for authentic, no frills, tasty entrees at a really reasonable price. Portions are pretty large. The lack of stars goes to slow service and problems communicating with the staff (lots of misunderstanding regarding orders). Don't get me wrong, staff is very nice, but orders tend to need ironing out upon pickup. D.K. is a good standby for hot, tasty, low-budg takeout on a weekday night when you're too tired to cook.

I saw this place a couple of months ago, but finally got around to trying it recently when I was lunching in the area. My first impressions when walking in were mixed. It was jam-packed with Indian folks (packed=bad, Indian peeps=good food), and it didn't look 100% clean. I was kind of in a hurry, so I figured it would be quicker to go for the buffet. I got a little bit of each dish (not sure of the names, because they weren't really labelled), and I enjoyed everything I tried. All of the food was authentic, flavorful, and downright delicious, and the naan was amazing! Next time, I think I'll order off the menu though, since my preference is to get a larger quantity of one or two things, not little tastes of many things. Just me...not a complaint. We weren't able to find a seat inside or directly outside, so we ended up sitting a shop or two down, but it didn't really pose a problem. Parking is another issue in this shopping center, especially during typical rush hours, so it might be necessary to park near McDonald's. I'll definitely be back to Delhi Kitchen at some point, and I'm already looking forward to it!

  • Selina H.

The parking is tough during lunch. The seating is pretty limited. The food is pretty good. I have concluded that I'm not a huge fan of chicken tandoor (I know, I should be banned from Indian food) but love every "paste" like thing they have there. I somehow always end up with this little yogurt thing with the special, and it's either sauce for the dish or dessert, and I can never figure out which one until I taste it. If I can't make it to Punjabi Tandoor, I'd come here since it's closer to the office.

    (4)
  • Stacey R.

I had a lunch vegetable combo that included a veggie dish with corn in it (I can't remember the name of it for the life of me), and it was SOOOOOO good!!! Also, I had the gulab jamun, and it tastes way better than the ones at Punjabi Tandoor. The only bad thing is that you have to buy them in a set of 3, and sometimes I really don't need all three at the end of a super-filling lunch combo.

Where else can you find a place that sells large amounts of solid quality food at such cheap prices. The Naan is great (they cook it on order even for the plate lunches). The service is great for such a little place. It's small, in a strip mall with a dozen other places to eat, so there's no problem with parking or finding somewhere to sit. If you have a hankering for inexpensive Indian food, this is the place.

I'm struggling between 3 and 4 stars, but I'll give it 3 stars because it was freezing in there and I had a skirt on. It was a rare, chilly day on Carmel Mountain Road. The wind was windy and the door was open at Delhi Kitchen. Now, your seating choices at Delhi Kitchen are limited. You can eat outside or at one of four-five cramped tables inside (note: this place is best for carry out). Because of the wind + chilly + skirt, we sat inside. But it was still cold. And I know I shouldn't go on about it, but it was seriously annoying, and I felt bad trying to rush El Husbando to finish his food so we could get out of there. The food is quite good. The buffet is small, but at least half of the dishes were vegetarian, so yay ! Their samosas, while not very spicy, had an amazing flavor and were very moist. Pakoras were pretty okay for buffet pakoras that have been sitting out for awhile. They had some vegetarian curry choices I don't think I've had before. I was expecting the usual saag paneer or mushroom masala, but there was saag.... saag something that wasn't paneer and had garbanzo beans in it. Oh man, that was tasty. Savory and spicy and the only dish I had extra of. Their vegetable korma was also good, but not out of the ordinary. All of the dishes were very well spiced and flavorful. The naan was fresh and just the way I like it. But, this place is too far away for me to care much about it. It was good, and I'd go there again if I were up in the area, but I'll stick to Mira Mesa for my Indian food needs.

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes! Finally, a good casual Indian place. I like Indian food, but in San Diego it is either inexpensive and bad, or expensive and so-so. This place was inexpensive AND great food. Nothing but friendly service and hot nann bread for me and the family.

5 stars for the taste.... but they put wayy to much Oil. So minus 1 star. I can't really go back often, because i feel like i had enough calories for an entire week. Great people run this joint, and they really care about the guests, and are always trying to make you feel like at home... they come by and bring you fresh naan, during the buffets. Cool service.

Disappointed............... you Yelpers have failed me for the very first time. i ordered the 2 item combo with Channa Masala & Chicken Tikka Masala, and i paid $1 extra for a Vegetable Pakora. I tipped them $2 for preparing my to-go order (and wishfully thinking they would pack more food in my to-go box but nOoooOOooOOoo). There wasn't enough rice to fill the bottom part of the to-go box (WTF??!!). Both the channa masala and chicken masala were barely enough to fill up the top two space in the to-go box. what disappointed me the most was food itself. Both the Channa Masala and Chicken Tikka Masala was just ok.. I could hardly taste the spice. When mix with rice, the whole meal became TASTELESS. Their food tasted like something that has been under the heat lamp for waaaay too long (e.g. chicken was dry and stringy, veggies were mushy). The vegetable pakara was decent, but the naan was just so-so. I will not come back again..

Coming from England I spent much of my youth eating Indian curry (very popular in England) and I have say Delhi Kitchen is on par with the best I've had. As another reviewer said, curry is pretty much the national food in England so I had high expectations. The fresh breads are amazing...really....seriously good naan...as are the samosas. We usually order off the menu (rather than use the buffet...which is good too) so our order is cooked fresh. You can ask for the food to be as spicy as you like. My favorites are Chicken Tikka Masala and Shrimp Karahi. The buffet is usually very well stocked and very inexpensive. Ordering off the menu is also reasonably priced; my wife and I get more than enough food for only about $20. If you've never tried Indian curry, or if you're a seasoned veteran, I highly recommend Delhi Kitchen!

Yummy!! That's it, that's all there is to say about this place. Ok well I should add that their naan is amazing, and the lunch specials that flow into dinner specials aren't bad either. $5-7 for 2 to 3 vegetarian dishes, rice, raita or salad, naan, and add a samosa for $1, or $1.50 (don't remember). Anyway this place has really tasty and cheap Indian food; I love the chana masala, aloo gobi and the veggie paneers/korma. The only downside to this place is external and that's the parking lot, it's downright SCARY during lunch hour. Park far and walk carefully.

I can't get enough of this place. I like how they have ready-made "sauces" available for quick in and out service. There seems to be a couple of standard sauces always available Veggie Korma and Chicken Tikka Masala and Tandoori Chicken and these tend to be on the mild side when it comes to spice heat. I would start with those choices if it is your first time eating Indian food. Once you are comfortable with those choices then move on and select something outside of your comfort zone and a more spicy. I usually get ChickenTikka Masala because I love the sauce. Then for my second side I always pick something I have never had before. Eventually I will have eaten all they have to offer but not there yet. The fresh made to order naan bread is my crack. I can't get enough but I have to limit to only a couple of bites. The garlic naan is also good. If you want a reasonable yummy meal, try Delhi.

I love Indian and this place is close to work so I sometimes stop by when I'm craving it... but I'm always disappointed. The servings are a good size, but there is just none of the great flavors that makes Indian food great... I don't know if they skimp on the herbs & spices, but it's just bland...

been coming here for years now and havent found a place quite like it. i think its a family owned business as i always see the same smiling faces everytime i come here. staff is friendly. large variety of options, especially for vegetarians. they have food ready for you to pick and take on the go, but if you want to order off their menu they can cook it right there in a jiffy. their samosas take a while though as they make that to order and frying takes a loooong time. their mango lassi is awesome!! a must try!

Really good food for a really cheap price. You might want to ask them to spice up the Tikka Masala a little bit. Great combos and super friendly staff. Feels like food might sit out too long some time.

This is the best Indian eat out in san Diego. It's got the authentic Indian taste and the food is perfect. The aroma in there makes u feel like heaven. Check out the combos they r sumptous. So I give five stars for them :)

around $7 for a 3-meat-vege combo. i got the rice with vege korma, saag paneer, and chicken tikka masala. everything was so delicious. they use a lot of coconut cream in their sauces, so the consistancy is milky and SO delicious when sopping up the sauce with the naan. the naan is always cooked the way i like it. you can choose either the yogurt or the salad as part of this combo. ive never gotten their yogurt. i suspect its similar to tzatziki, where the yogurt is unsweetened and tart. the cucumber salad that comes with my food is usually forgotten because everything else is just so tasty. my sister got her combo with the chicken vindaloo and chicken tikka masala. the vindaloo sauce is very spicy. being korean, im used to spicy food, but that vindaloo sauce leaves quite a burn in the mouth that goes on. it is delicious.. just a little painful. she ended up mixing her chicken tikka masala and vindaloo together to help ease the spiciness. definitely a place ill be going back to when i want a quick and yummy indian fix.

very quick and easy, in and out, if you order what they have for the lunch specials. if you don't, a touch of chaos and extra waiting is in your future. (communication was a little cumbersome) it was still pretty fast and the food was pretty good. not great, but good. i got mattar paneer, the spicy lamb and the chicken tikka masala. the lamb was very "one note" and the tikka masala, while the chicken was VERY tender, the gravy was a little on the bland side for me. the mattar paneer was good, but again, just a bit bland (yes, i ordered it mild, but i don't think the level of heat should be directly translated into overall flavor.) the raita was top notch and the naan was also very good. I'll go back to give them a second try because of the speed of service and low cost, hoping the food next time measures up to the yelp reviews. overall, i recommend giving them a shot.

Look carefully at the date of service--Anybody who dares to give more than one star "today" is no doubt lying through his or her yellow teeth. Today, Delhi Kitchen was sacrifice-my-poor-guts kitchen. My two entree plate with mushroom and peas curry and the chicken masala were chokeful of chili flakes and so was the chicken which for some reason also had a vinegerish flavor. I ended up throwing my whole plate into garbage, and thought I'd share my wife's. Her plate with cauliflower which too was drunk and overdosed with flaky chilli, and her other entree lentils (or daal) was brimming with asafoetida (aka heeng) were just not worth it. I gave up after first bite/taste. Finally, I ended up stealing a slice of pizza from my kids who were smart enough to forgo Delhi K. and ordering from Z Pizza a few doors down Delhi. And, then I raided my frig for leftovers (my dinner, sigh!) My wife wasn't lucky, though. She finished her two-entree crap and a minute ago was in bathroom recycling the stuff and sending it on its way to the ocean--God save the fishes.

My bff and i come here so often, the kitchen family always smile when they see us. We always get the Chicken Tikka Masala and Veggie Korma with side of salad and a hint of yogurt on top. They DO have GREAT NAAN here! Cheap, and fast too! The homemade naan got a stretchy texture and yummy taste. It's always a good place to chill when you are craving for indian food ;)

I am surprised this place has such good ratings. It must be people that have never tasted good Indian food before. The food is bland. The place is so tiny. Last time I was there it took forever for the lady to even take our order. She was on the phone, chatting with her family or coworkers. I wasn't quite sure if my wife and I suddenly became invisible for a few minutes and then finally reappeared or what. When we tried this place the first time it was not good. The only reason we went back was because the other place in Poway was closed.

I've grown weary of over-priced Indian restaurants. It's cool to find an inexpensive solution. What can I say that hasn't been said? The restaurant opened about three years ago. The hostess is a super cool family member of the extremely charming kind. If you're having a stressful day, like I was, just one look into those amazing eyes and you're relaxed, smiling and ready for some tandoori chicken and vegetable korma. With plastic utensils and a styrofoam cup of water I was ready to dig in. To be honest, the chicken was luke warm and on the dry side. I came in after the lunch rush and it was one of three pieces left in the buffet bucket. I could tell it would've tasted awesome straight out of the tandoor. The vegetable korma, however, was delicious. The basmati rice was typical, and the naan bread was warm and wonderful especially with the yogurt dip. Lucky me, the super cool hostess with mesmerizing eyes let me sample some of their other dishes . . . the saag and masala were very good. The location is in the plaza south of Home Depot where Trader Joe's is. The restaurant is a little dirty, but I think it adds to the experience in some strange way. The place is also frequented by lots of nice Indian folks . . . always a good sign. I would normally deduct a couple of stars for dry chicken and dirty floors, etc, but when considering price and value it was satisfying, and the mom, pop, and daughter friendliness factor gained back a star. But I think I'll order something directly from the kitchen next time.

My husband and I moved to San Diego a few years ago and have tried several of the Indian restaurants in SD. The Delhi Kitchen is by far the best!!! It is a little family run place that plays non-stop Bollywood videos on their t.v. Making the ambience cozy and authentic. The daughter always greets us with a smile and the mom always looks so proud to serve her amazing food. The place is always filled with Indians eating the food which I always have viewed as good sign. On the weekends, they have an all you can eat buffet for 9 dollars including an order of Nan which is delicious. The Veggie Korma and the Tikki Masala are incredible as well as the Samosas. I recommend upgrading the Nan to the Garlic Nan for .50 cents more. This place can't dissapoint!

I wish Yelp had a 3.5 star option because this restaurant isn't quite 4 stars...but I digress... Anyway, the food here is good, authentic Punjabi food. I would put it a few notches higher than Punjabi Tandoor and Sher-E-Punjab... The naan is a highlight here as are the various veggie curries which are all well done. Meat dishes are a bit hit/miss but overall...the food here is good. You could do a lot worse when it comes to indian food in SD. Pricing is very affordable and the portions are just right. No complaints there. Service is friendly and quick. Take out would be my recommendation as it gets way too cramped inside. I wouldn't drive out of my way to eat at Delhi Kitchen since Punjabi Tandoor and bawarchi are closer....but if you're in the area and want indian food, this is a great place to check out.

This place is awesome! I knew this place was here for over a year but never thought twice about it since it was a hole-in-the-wall type place and I wasn't so sure about it. But I was really craving Indian food the other day and my favorite place was in downtown (25 minute drive) and very expensive so I decided to give Delhi a try. I yelped it first, of course, to see what others had to say. And after reading the reviews I gave it a go and Delhi is now my favorite Indian place! I had a 2 item to go. I got the chicken tiki marsala and the chicken vindaloos. The plate came with rice, salad with yogurt dressing and nan. The 2 dishes were awesome. The spices in the vindaloos was great, giving it a little kick. And the best was the nan. They give you a 2 giant pieces and it was just the right combination of soft, chewy, and crispy. I told my bf and we went back on the weekend for their all-you-can-eat lunch buffet offered during 11-3 on the weekends for $6.99. A seriously great price for all they offered. I took the buffet opportunity to try out the rest of the dishes. I can't remember the names of the other dishes as I'm pretty bad with names, but they were all delicious. I especially loved their samosas. Yum! ... that's all I have to say.

I used to work at the pinkberry two doors down from this place and i literally love the owners, the food, everything. The owners are really nice and work really hard to make their living and they always give really good portions for small prices and are extremely friendly. The food is set up in a buffet like style on the side and you can just order individual entrees or do a buffet meal which makes it super convenient to order depending on your appetite. My favorites are their garlic naan and their simosas. They make everything fresh, fast, and delicious. The only down side is that it's not a super nice sit down place, but with such great quality food that doesn't matter. I love delhi kitchen!

Punjabi Tandoor or Delhi Kitchen? DELHI KITCHEN all the way! The two are similar in ambience, as in, there is none. They're both hole in the walls, tucked away in plazas. I like to call Delhi Kitchen the Panda Express of Indian food because of their 2 item combo (about 7 bucks) or 3 item combos (about 8 bucks). And it's only 50 cents extra for freshly prepared garlic naan! Common daily selections (I've been there almost everyday to tell you) are the Chicken Tikka Masala, Aloo Gobi (cauliflower and potato dish), samosas, salad (optional yogurt dressing) and the Vegi Korma. Their selection changes from day to day. Some days they'll have Kheer (Indian rice dessert), some days they won't. Once in a while they have the Saag Paneer (Indian cheese and spinach dish) and I'll feel like I won the lottery. The mango lassi tasted a bit too much like mango flavored milk when I first tried it, but I eventually got used to the taste. It's still goood. Everything is delicious here and it's very reasonably priced, although they might skimp on the portions. I think it's family owned. There's always a little girl running around. And they're always smiling. That's always nice =) They're open until 9pm. I wish they opened later to satisfy my late night cravings!

Went here for their six dollar buffet. It wasnt worth it. The food was oily and the place was not that clean. The only good part was their naan which was soft and warm and awesome. Would not recommend it.

Love this place! I've eaten here a gazillion times and I've never been disappointed. The naan is amazing! The food is authentic, simple, and totally satisfying. It's a simple, super delicious, fast food restaurant. What's not to love?

Yummy food at 2-star prices gives this a 4-star experience. The fresh nan (Indian bread) can't be beat. We always grab the buffet on the weekend since we can't choose just one or two dishes, but I hear the food is a notch better if you order off the menu.

Good Indian food for the price you are paying. It's a family owned small restaurant. We usually make the food to go. Some of their dishes are really better then many other Indian restaurants I have been to. You should try it out.

I have been coming to this place everyday for the last two weeks. I am now a little embarrass going in there so I ask my husband to order to go for me. I just lOOOOOOVVVE their food. Their chicken tikka masala is out of this world. I used to go to Punjabi for my Indian food, but now I don't have to drive so far to satisfy my Indian craving. This is good and bad-I told myself I will only go twice a week but its so hard to stay away from that kitchen. The place is very hole in the wall. I think it's a family owned, and everyone there is so sweet. They make me feel so welcome. Just love this place.

Small hole-in-the-wall, family owned place. Nothing fancy but has very tasteful food. The lady that had helped us was very friendly. Usually people at Indian restaurants are rude so it was nice to have friendly service from an Indian restaurant. Visited Delhi Kitchen during their lunch hour during a weekday. Ordered the Chilli Paneer and the Paneer Tikka Masala with a side of garlic naan. Reasonably priced for the flavorful food. Served each dish with a side of Daal Makhanee, white pulao rice and raita. Usually Punjabi food is quite oily however, it was perfect. Not too oily, enough spice, served quickly and hot. The garlic naan was fluffy and not burnt. We ordered just enough food to satisfy two people. They also have a lunch buffet which I'm sure is just as good. If you're looking for a quick-fix for spicy Indian food in North County, Delhi Kitchen is ideal. Not good for groups because the space is very limited. Parking in the shopping complex is difficult. Had to park near the bank and walk over.

I go to this place when ever I am craving Indian food. I love spicy and I love curry :) Naan bread is awesome! It's great for dipping in the curry! I give them top marks for: Food: tasty and generous in portions Location: in a shopping center near Champagne and Trader Joes Price: cheap Service: Indian lady is very friendly and alway serves you with a smile.

It's been a while since I've been here and man did I miss it. Every plate gets fresh Naan. The spicy dish, almost always front right corner was fantastic. The veggie korma was great. And my god for the price, 3 items for $7.99 you cannot beat this. I've spent way more to get Indian food that was not nearly as good. Try getting this at a nice Indian restaurant and it'd be way more money. Did I mention the Naan is cooked fresh with every order?

Nice option of pre-made indian food. The combos are a great value and you have to want to support the family operations. I recommend the chicken curry and a veggie option combo. $6.50 w/ raita, naan, and rice- Bam.

So we've got a lot of what I would call "dirty Mexican" food dives such as Robertos, Albertos, etc, that have great Mexican food. Indian, however, is kind of hard to come by unless you want to sit down at a restaurant. We stumbled across Delhi Kitchen last week, and I am now an official customer for life! The place is tiny, and kinda old. No pretty decor here. But the food?!?!? It's just fabulous! If you love little mom and pop shops, this is the place for you. The food is fresh and fantastic, the prices are fair, and portions generous.

I am a big fan of Indian food. When this place opened I was a bit scared to try it because I've only ever had Indian cuisine in a nice, sit down restaurant and this place isn't that attractive. Finally, one of my friends tells me they tried it and liked it. So I go and order the Chicken Tikka Masala and wow, it's perfect! That happens to be my favorite Indian dish. Needless to say, I've been back so many times the family who owns it now recognizes me. They are nice people. It is not the best Indian food you'll ever eat, but it is very tasty and not expensive. The amount of food they give you for to go orders is enough for two people. The samosas are delicious and made fresh when you order them and they will let you sample anything in the buffet before you order. If you want fast, cheap, yummy and huge portions, go here.

Pretty good, and the price is hard to beat. Best Indian for the price I've found in San Diego. I always go for the Chicken Tikka Masala, but the goat curry is good too. Naan is freshly made- get it with garlic.

This was my favorite go-to place in San Diego until I recently found Surati Farsan and Punjabo Tandoori. With that said, I have gone here over 100 times easily. I would always get the Chicken Tikka Masala and any lamb dish that they had. The Saag Paneer is really good and is usually only made on Fridays, so try to go there on Fridays. I also think this is one of their best dishes. The Veggie Korma is also one of my top dishes to get. The naan is usually very good, and the mango lassies are really good here. I also recommend getting the salad that is usually put right next to the super hot food, on a separate container (you can ask them to do this for you) so your salad remains cold and you can eat it after or before you chow down on your main, hot dishes. This place is overall really good, you just have to order the right items. I also recommend ordering from the menu and pay the extra $1 or $2 to get it made fresh, as it tastes much better then the food that was sitting under the heat lamps.

Cheapest AND tastiest way to visit India! Dude, this place rocks when I need Indian food and don't want to have to go to a fancy sit-down! I've only done take-out as I generally get cravings for Indian late at night. This is the ONLY place I am willing to face rush hour traffic for! The owners(?) are very friendly. The food is always tasty! And the lemon chutney is always available! Fast food at its best!

I don't know much about Indian food, but I do know that I like it. I usually feel kind of intimidated when I go into Indian places because I don't know what most of the dishes are. However, the ladies working at Delhi Kitchen are really friendly and gave us plenty of samples to help us figure out what we liked best. Everything tasted delicious, especially the Chicken Tikka Masala. A big plus is that they gave each of us a basket of fresh, hot Naan (flatbread made of white flour). I usually don't give hole in the wall places five stars, but Delhi Kitchen gets five for its delectable food, ample portions, excellent prices, and gracious staff.

We love this place. Wish the portions were a bit bigger, but we're big eaters. The value is still tremendous. We've been eating there since it opened. At first it was slow. Apparently took a while to catch on. The food is insanely good. The family that runs it is super nice too. Normally people we invite along with us are skeptical about Indian food to start with - its a great place to introduce them to it. So far not a single person hasn't been impressed! My wish list: Lamb more often in the buffet. But you can order it anytime so no gripe about it!

If you took monsoon out of the gaslamp, sold off the fancy artwork to the highest bidders and replaced the well dressed staff with minimum wage labor, added the flavor back to your food, replaced your plasma's with old ass TV's and re-opened shop in a suburban strip mall, you would be called Dehli Kitchen. How could I forget? Make sure you charge 1/3 of the price. All in al a good meal. Now, given that every Indian restaurant I go to has a Bollywood film playing, I've included the Bollywood reenactment of my lunch: I enter the restaurant and the nice lady behind the counter is overly concerned about my weight and making diet recommendations (secretly, hoping that she can marry her daughter off to this young lad). As I order my food, the camera pans and in walks the daughter (who could be the girl with the nice eyes mentioned in other reviews), and all dialogue stops, and she smiles coyly and looks away giggling. Oh and there is here hair blowing in the wind with the use of industrial fans. And in the words of Neil Patrick Harris "wait for it, wait for it, wait for it..." The spatulas in the kitchen began to rhythmically cook together along with every other thing in the kitchen and the song and dance begins. All this over lunch. Of course, the men in the restaurant all get behind me and all of the girls friends show up and the dancing begins. The mother smiles and her tears of joy start to roll. And I am clever enough to get all the men dancing in unison, and we walk up to the girl, she comes close and then runs away and starts to sing about something in her heart and mine. I come up with clever phrases such as "the sparkle from your bracelets has kept me from being able to sleep" and my personal favorite from this afternoon's viewing "this Punjabi will never relent" or in my case "this South Indian". So, what started out as a simple venture out to grab some Indian food has now turned to the epic saga of Srini's San Diego Bollywood rendition.......To be continued (with more song, dance, and of course tragedy).. My first attempt to make in Bollywood: youtube.com/watch?v=bUeE…

This place is awesome! It's a cute family owned authentic restaurant with great service that always remembers their regulars. My husband and I having been going here for about two years and it never disappoints. We always order off of the hot bar, which is a steal... about $6-8 dollars for 2 main entrees (i.e. vegetarian or meat) with rice, salad or yogurt and freshly made naan. The price, the food, the service is great! However, the atmosphere is totally a hole in the wall type thing with outdoor seating; they also play bollywood movies non stop, which I think makes it all the better!

Delhi Kitchen turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It is a small family run business. They are located in the Carmel Mountain shopping plaza near the Trader Joe's. It is decently clean and sits about 10-15 people at a time. About the food - their Naan is light and cooked to perfection. It is one of the best I have eaten in US OR INDIA. Some of the subjis are oily, they are very tasty. Highly recommend the saag and channa masaala. okra subji is also great. You get two item combo (small portions of subjis or curries) for $5.50. It comes with raita/salad, rice and a freshly baked naan. Alternately, you can also order individual curries in small med and large sizes. These will be made to order and you can specify the spiciness. Some times the combo curries are too mild as they are made for 'Americans' :) Overall, a clean place and very affordable. I will be going back often.

Wow. What a place. I ***love*** spicy foods. While I don't speak whatever language the woman at the counter spoke, not any better than her English, anyway, it didn't matter. We smiled and said "hello" several times and I eventually walked away with a styrofoam box of a lamb and potato dish and another chickpea-based dish along with rice and salad and a couple pieces of naan bread thoughtfully packaged up very neatly. THE FOOD IS INCREDIBLE. It's spicy, it's delicious, the spices are incredibly well-balanced IMHO. My mouth is ringing like a bell, I feel elated -- I just LOVE spicy food. Delhi Kitchen's food is satisfying and inexpensive, but with a depth of flavor that I associate with far, far more expensive restaurants, but without the sometimes bizarre floral notes of expensive Indian restaurants. I cannot remember a restaurant so satisfying in my entire life as Delhi Kitchen. Truly a blessing for our neighborhood. What a place. This is no ordinary Indian place. This is a treasure. 100% highest possible recommendation. I'm trying hard to remember if I've ever had such a delicious meal before in my entire life, and I'm not sure that I ever have. Wow, indeed.

Seriously some of the best Indian food I have had in San Diego. Screw ambience, screw silverware, screw waitors...it's all about the food baby! This establishment is run by the nicest hardworking family. The people alone make you want to return and give them your business. I used to buy the frozen Indian entrees and boxed curries at Trader Joes all the time but no more! I go from Trader Joes to Delhi Kitchen to home a happy camper.

I've been going through my bookmarks and writing reviews on places I visited and didn't yelp, and I realized I missed this place! My husband and I visited Delhi Kitchen a few weeks ago, and both of us were very satisfied with the food. First of all, it's a TINY place, so we did do takeout. The women (& men, though we were served by women) working there are very nice and accomodating, and will allow you to taste-test just about anything (if it's something they have already made). This is awesome because they give you a ton of food once you finally do purchase an entree, and it'd be a shame to have a lot of something you didn't like. Anyway, I forget what we had, but all of it was good. One of the dishes I had was a bit rich for me (maybe the korma?) but regardless was delicious. The Naan is fabulous. I recommend this place for sure, especially if you live nearby. And the prices are recession-friendly, another huge plus!

The food is very good and so are the people. Its a nice place for take-out and party orders. I live very near this place so it is convenient for me to order food and pick up on my way back home. Naan and tandoori paratha are great. My favorite is Paneer Tikka and Malai Kofta.

I went here about a month ago and it tasted really good. I went back yesterday and the food was not as good as I remembered. One thing that stayed consistent was the naan bread. They serve it to you fresh. Just for that I will be back.

When I do go out to lunch with co-workers this is a favorite. The cost is inexpensive and the food is really tasty. You get a large basket of fresh, homemade naan bread with your meal. They cook it minutes before you get your order. One thing that stands out about this place is that you order your food from a bar and then you can take it to your seat and pay afterwards. I like that kind of trust and relationship between the restaurant and the patrons. The restaurant is family owned, with the mom and dad cooking (I think) and the daughter (I think) usually running the cash register and taking orders. Portions are good sized, not too big and not to small.

My FIRST CHOICE for Indian food! I recommend this place to Everyone! My go-to dishes are the Veggie Korma and Aloo Gobi. Never disappointing. I tend to stick with the buffet items because I'm usually STARVING by the time I get there that I just want my kick-ass food dished up right in front of me, like right now. Another time I'll order off the menu.. I've never been a fan of their white rice, but I DREAM ABOUT THEIR NAAN!! Free refills on self-serve fountain drinks, which is great with spicy food! It's definately tight quarters in there but I am always way into the food in front of me to be bothered by it. I started coming here at least a year ago or more and it used to be empty some of the times I went it. Now that word has spread about this place, I never see it empty. That makes me really happy for the family that owns this restaurant. I wish them nothing but success and happiness :) I LOVE THIS PLACE!

This place is great! I love the chicken makhni. The people who work there are also very nice and friendly. They have buffets on the weekends. The place is small but the food is delicious.

We came across this place after our trip to Trader Joe's. It lacked the curb appeal but it smelled so good so we took a chance. Since it was between lunch/dinner, my daughter and I splitted a 6.99 entree and that really got us stuffed. The chicken marsala was awesome. We mopped the plate clean. The naan was fresh and warm, rice was cooked perfectly. Definitely will come back for lunch/dinner and buffet. Great customer service as well!

Best Indian food in San Diego in my opinion. Way better than punjabi tandoor and indian tandoor.

This place is awesome. Cheap, fast and extremely tasty. Stumbled into this place for dinner one night after having a hankering for some curry. They have already-prepared entrees like tikki marsala chicken but you can also order off their menu and they will prepare it for you. Dinner usually runs 6-8 bucks and comes with some rice and a bit of salad. The best thing about this place has got to be the naan thats included in every meal that they make fresh in their tandoor when your food is ordered. So GOOD! That's probably what keeps me coming back. If you're in the area, definitely give this place a try.

Really affordable and quality Indian food. Naan bread is awesome. Baked right in front of yours eyes. Not a great sitting arrangement but it's worth the price. Weekend all you can eat buffet is great too. It's a small family run place and the owners are very nice and friendly. First choice for Indian food in san Diego if you do not want to grab a quick and affordable lunch or dinner.

When people ask me for the best place to get indian food in San Diego, Delhi Kitchen comes to my mind without a second thought. The food is authentic, fresh and the place is run by a nice bunch of people. If you order from the menu, you can spice it up to your level and the food is cooked fresh in front of you. Don't miss the food because you don't like the ambiance, take the food to go. My favorites: Paneer Tikka Masala, Paneer Burji, Baingan Bartha, Chilli Paneer

my wife and i come here at least every week. the owners are very nice and remember you when you return. the lamb vindaloo and lamb biryani are tasty although the biryani can be quite spicy for those that can't handle it. i tend to stay away from the tandoori chicken except for on buffet days when it comes out of the oven on a very frequent basis. one of my favorite places in north county. Sometimes the prepared dishes can look like they've been sitting a while. If you order something made to order it usually tastes better/fresher (duh!). Edit: Chicken Saag is the bomb!!!!!

I love this place.. There are many places I have tired like Punjabi Tandoor, but this place is simply amazing. I love the food, the people that work there(they always remember me, even if I dont go there every week). And they even remember my orders! The place is small like others said, but most of the time I usually pick up the food and eat it at home. I love their mango lassi. One of my favorite drinks. I am Indian and Punjabi so the fact that their food reminds me of moms food is a pretty good indication that the food is good.

This is the BEST deal around. A combo meal for under $6 gets you two entrees from the display, rice, salad with raita, and fresh naan. Or, you can order a menu item cooked how you want it. The food here is always very good. It's a basic small store front with limited seating, but you won't be disappointed.
